Apparently Innersphere pilots have concluded that the best way to win a scouting match is to run around in a locust and collect intel. Then use the ******** survivability it has to run in at the last second.

I'm all for unique game modes but when I spend the match running around only to see my opponent in that last few seconds it makes me wonder what this kind of gamplay is supposed to be.

Can we just raise the lower weight limit to 35 tons? You can still get a decently fast light at the weight and its not something invulnerable like a locust is.

Are they all the pilot's who don't have Griffins, Shadow Hawks, Centurions and Bushwackers?

Well... I have scouted a fair amount over the last week and streaks are a thing again. I don't blame is pilots for doing anything they can to win. I like to fight but when dropping with pugs it is sometimes better to play the objectives.

Lolcust, invulnerable?!?!?

LOL

Well, in case you missed the memo, in Gather you are supposed to Gather Intel and leave with it. Not slow down and wait for your streak boat or nova to catch up.

Hope you dont run across my scout group, your going to hate Centurions.

Valid way to scout. You don't even need locusts to do it, clans do the same thing with cheetahs (if they want to). Otherwise, it would just be 4vs4 skirmish with objectives secondary (and yes, I would rather fight mechs as well, but I understand the mode design)

That's what scouting is, collect data points and get out. Why would anyone scouting to collect data even want to engage the enemy is beyond me. Even when its the enemies turn to collect data I run out and try to collect as many as I can thus stopping them from moving the scouting bar. Game mode is working as intended. If you want to engage the enemy then drop invasion mode.

Well, the whole point of a scout is to mark the enemy position and when possible avoid direct confrontation with the enemy.

But even so, there's more points to be made in combat because there's a bigger list of combat reward types than scouting reward types.

Yeah, it's true that there's not much of a counter to a "smoke-dive" trick, so the only means that come to mind for me at least is to take at least one light, hunt them down, try to run in intercept paths, and keep your eyes open.

Not much of a solution, but so be it. Try Streak Missiles, pulse lasers, and going for legs or CTs.

I think what the op mentions is is the way the mode is intended to work... I don't think that the idea was to have 4 smpl novas slowly walking around melting your face... in scouting mode fast mechs are the key to success (or should atleast) like the Vioer or the crb-20 Crab. What I believe is not very well solved is the 1 Intel required to win thing. I think that if the defender is able to cap 11 points the at acres should lose or be forced to kill the enemy mechs to retrieve the data... but not rushing for the ds since it doesn't care if you gather enough Intel or not... or make that case a tie but a win for practically loosing at the headline feature of the mode which is scouting feels just wrong to me

A phoenixcheetah works great for this type of tactic. You are quick and hidden with the added benefit of being able to take quite a pounding at the end and quickly wrack up damage at the dropzone.

If pugging, i do this all the time -- easily come out with the data, a few hundred damage and a kill or two. Really, when you see the crap IS players are dropping in pug scouting missions, most of the time you have no chance with the a braw-n-leg method.
Now, if you lose to a locust doing this, bring moar streaks lolz.

I think a change that would make scouting more interesting is being able to 'steal' data that other mechs have collected and have the winning side take out whatever intel they collect, protect or gather.

A ACH shouldn't really have any problems finding a locust and beating it. As fast as the locust is, it's stopping to collect points and the points are pretty predictably spread with some maps having not many ways to avoid contact.

Omg!! Clanners started to wine again. Now pgi are going to nerf Locusts(((
Seriously. Clan 50 tons mechs are stronger than is 55-60. Its about taking intel and leaving. No one is forsing you to go scout. Go quck play and fight if you like.

The OP is missing the point of Scouting, entirely. Myself and my fellow Scouts take the LCT to deny "predictable" Enemies the very thing they are looking for: a fight. It has nothing to do with the LCTs "survivability", it's the speed! Get in. Get out. Scouting is NOT a 4v4 Skirmish mode. Nor is it meant to be. If you are playing it that way, that's YOUR problem. If you are tired of being "read like a book", bring four ACHs or MLXs and actually try to counter the tactic.

We collect Intel to give our Invasion 12s the tactical advantages that can help them win their matches. My unit has dedicated Scouting Teams - that's all we do. We support our Invasion Teams 100%. That's our job. It's never about 4v4, or Cbills, or XP, or Match Score (see QuickPlay for that).... it's about the Intel. It's about Teamwork.

The problem with scouting, like most game modes, is that the reward system is based on damage, kills, components destroyed, etc.

So if you run in with 4 lights and gather up all the intel and leave without a scratch, which should be the ultimate success in a scouting match, you get jack squat for Cbills, xp, and match score.

4v4 skirmish and then gather once the enemy is dead and you rake in the Cbills, XP, and Match score.

Well, you just got outplayed in the mechlab, NVA is good to compete with equal minded people like yours on the IS side. But the point of scouting is as the others said to grab itel and gtfo IS cna do this extremely well, so get in an ACH, or OFR or Viper and start palying the mode for what it was made for: grabbign intel.

The more intel you grab ind efend, the less your opponent can escape with. the faster oyur mech is, the lesslikely can their fast ones escape.
The slower your mehc is, the less likely cna you succeed with the first two. And on collect, be happy in your NVA when the dropilot doesn't choose the othr side of the map. you may not even arrive at that dropzone anymore. Scoutign is an amazing fun as it is really up to tactics, speed and hide and seek. And even if you knwo you will lose youc an still try to affect the degree of losing. Invasion just knows win or loss but a "win" in scouting with only 6 intel gathered isn't a big success.

You are assuming we care about Cbills, XP and Match Score. Wrong assumption in this case.

Huntsman.

6xstreak 6.

Bap.

4 1/2 tons of ammo.

UAV

Coolshot.

If it's mediums kite them at 300-400m as long as possible with that range module.

If it's lights, vaporize them.
