To anyone that doesn't know me, I'm a "Non-Meta, Non-Brawler, Casual"-type of MechWarrior. I'm also getting to this thread more than 14 hours late. Sadly, PGI has finally blown it, and forced me to quit MWO abruptly. I left them a series of warnings, including...
  • Don't mess with LRM Range -- it should remain at a 1000-Meter BaseLine

This is because they're not messing with Energy or Ballistic Weapon Ranges in any severe way. Worse, an awful change like this therefore severely advantages those who are using the "Gauss/ERPPC Meta", or for that matter anyone who boats Energy Weapons and/or Ballistic Weapons, such as those "Call of Duty"-based Sniping Whiners who are trying to remove LRMs. Sadly, the LRM weapon system is part of what makes MechWarrior (and BattleTech in general) the game it happens to be, and to make it bad in such a manner removes its' ability to work in MWO. PGI's action has therefore made MWO no longer a MechWarrior game to me, and I hope that PGI soon finds out how awful and ugly of an error they have made here, as they slowly see this game turn into "Call Of Duty Mechs".
Further of note, Teamwork will now also get worse, as people used to help others in order to get extra earnings during a match. Now they won't see as much benefit, and therefore that edge and angle to both LRM and Non-LRM users will go out the window. Say goodbye to teammates helping teammates get Enemy Mechs off each other's backs.
Also, as one last note, people with older computers who can't put up the Real $$$ to upgrade get screwed here as well, as they were depending on LRMs remaining useful in order to continue playing. They don't have the computer systems to handle Brawling and/or Long-Range Rendering for Direct-Fire Situations.
  • Lowering LRM Range Limits hurts the insertion area for I.S. MRMs

I really tried to warn PGI about this, but it seems they're not listening. Any pilot who uses I.S. Mechs at all, you have my sincerest condolences about the matter. Unfortunately, you're not going to see the useful range beyond the Streak SRMs (which have up to a 400-Meter Limit, I think?) now that you should have been given (a 700-Meter Limit at the Minimum), and the usefulness of the MRM Weapon System is going to start out Nerfed and Damaged in the first place. What a wreck, even before the "Civil War Update" that was supposed to happen in July.
  • 91 Nodes is far too few -- give 120 Nodes minimum for Non-Meta Pilots

Frankly, I feel that PGI should be giving even more (about 150!), but I was trying not to be rabid. I worked over the Skill Tree images several times, attempting to find some way under the new systems to keep all my mechs (and therefore any Non-Meta Design) up to some minimum level of effectiveness to a team. Each and every time, I came up 29 Nodes Short, which brought me to a 120-Node Number. Further, a game called "BorderLands" had managed to balance out at a '13 Nodes Allowed for every 21 Nodes Available' system. Calculating on that, PGI would have to 'Allow 147 Nodes for the 237 Nodes Available'. But, I was trying to avoid over-boosting Meta-Type Pilots in the process of coming up with a suitable number to keep Non-Meta Mech Designs from being completely ruined. Sadly, the only people who are going to benefit now are Meta-Type Mech Pilots because they don't need as many Nodes as a Non-Meta Pilot. I can pretty much call it right now that MWO is going to devolve into "MetaMech Online" only, and that all other Pilots are going to be driven away.
  • Stop with your "Clan-aimed Hate", PGI -- No, really!

What PGI has failed to notice is where the skilled players have gone, because of where they think they can get the best enjoyment from the game with their "Meta Designs" and such. Sadly, too many moved Clan-side, and there weren't enough in the Inner Sphere to properly represent so that PGI could get the data they needed to balance MWO, just because those high-skilled players wanted their Victory Trophies and such. (In case you're wondering, I was 'Clan' during "Tukayyid 3" for other reasons, as I'm NOT that highly skilled myself!) Unfortunately, this means that PGI has once again continued to hate Clan Technology, where such hate was NOT due. I guess you'll all be seeing the constant devolution of MWO over this unnecessary hate causing a problem spot as well.
...and I'm sure there was more that I should be posting here, but I can't think of it at the moment. Still waking up, feeling worn out, and then I see how badly PGI screwed everything up. No, I won't be patching, I won't be playing anymore. PGI has finally driven out a 'Voice Of Reason', as I can't handle their insanity anymore. I've got other games to take up as options to play, so I'm going to leave and have fun with them. Posted Image

If you always quit on things in life without even giving them a chance you must be pretty sad... Patch, run a few games, see how it feels like, it won't kill you. You're killing yourself.

Not getting a full refund, so what, you didn't buy them for real money, I'd hate to play monopoly with you, getting a full refund, sounds legit.
Having to pay every time you change modules sucks but that's the game now, it isn't real money, thank god Apple don't buy out the game, you'd pay just to log in.
To those leaving the game BYE BYE NOW, is it because the game has sort of balanced out or is it because your aim-bot, armour hack, ecm hack, weapon range hack will have to go till new ones are released and you have to pay for them again, OH I see now, that's the money your bitching about, got it, my bad.
I'M KHAN ATTAKHAN and I'm probably in trouble again.

You ought to know that the *effective* range of LRMs is around 400 meters, right? For radar deprivation and cover could and have been raining on any LRM boats parade from a kilometer away.

I will reitetate my stance from many other threads:

The player base is varied and complex and PGI will never please all of us so long as we each project our own vision of how the game should be with an air of special snowflake-yness. This is not directed at any one person as most of us have valid points individually...

...we just can't all get precisely want we want and/or we need to realize that sometimes our ideas don't translate well into the game (programming limitations and whatnot) in its current state.

Give this a go, lets get hard proof one way or another before we say unequivically where its at.

The pts is a good start but its hard to fully gauge some changes until they are in the production system.

These notes remind me that we need

    1) Return the Centurion's missile doors!
    2) Nerfing LRMs, really? They already suck at long range due to velocity but you are going to nerf that anyway?
    3) Return the Centurion's missile doors!

I'm sure there's more points to raise but this is enough from me for now...

    RETURN THE CENTURION'S MISSILE DOORS!

So PGI really is nerfing LRM's and sticking to the 91 mod limit along with shortchanging us...pathetic.

    1. Nerfing LRM range will throw the game out of balance for multiple reasons.

1a. LRM's are not meta, period. They have their advantages and disadvantages just like any other weapon but are still not meta.

1b. By nerfing them alone, that only encourages the Guass/PPC meta pilots since LRM's are now less of a threat to them. Seriously, the only weapons capable of doing full damage to them at their extreme ranges without standing there like a sitting target waiting for the burn time to end are sometimes LRM's (I say sometimes because PPC/Guass out-range LRM's by a considerable margin).

1c. All the LRM haters that PGI is now catering to are soon going to shift their crying to the PPC/Guass meta since it just became more powerful with fewer long range weapons able to threaten them.

1d. Furthermore, with LRM range now nerfed, though I cannot believe I am actually sticking up for the lousy IS'ers now, what about their MRM's? With LRM range now nerfed, they will also have to nerf the MRM's range as well. While I do not fancy being on the receiving end of an MRM 80 or worse (since I only play Clan), there are at least a few decent IS players that just want to have fun and nerfing possibly the most anticipated IS weapon system coming up before it is even released... Need I say more?

    2. I agree with DV. 91 Nodes is not really going to cut it, especially since PGI is practically forcing us to invest in certain branches to get at least some of the things they took away back along with forcing us to but nodes that we do not want nor need. This leaves very little room to expand the customization beyond restoring part of what we had to begin with.

    3. To be so cheap that they would shortchange us (especially the older game vets) to the tune of hundreds of millions per player...

I was hoping that they would come to their senses and not screw up like this, but once again, I set the bar for them above ground level and was disappointed. I really need to learn my lesson regarding having positive expectations from PGI.

Some of us did pay real money for them. They were included as part of early adopter rewards on mech packs. C-Bills were included as well. C-bills which many of us used to buy more modules.

It is fatalistic to react to something being worse than it was by saying deal with it. That is utter malarkey. Stop denigrating those striving to get something changed because it is bad.

Attributing the anger and consternation that players have over this poorly thought out change that short changes years of progression to those of us being angry as being cheaters is completely and utterly disingenuous. We're angry because this is a bad change that screws the players out of years worth of work.

I for one like this patch notes and like the forward motion of PGI.

Only those do not make mistakes who do nothing.

If LRMs are nerfed, fantastic - us potatoes do not like them much, they make me run in circles. Clans got nerfed? Look at last event score and kindly hang your head in shame.

Mechs are going to move slower? Fantastic, if you want fast-paced shooter, then clearly it is the wrong game for you.

I am not cancelling my preorders, I am happy, and so should be you: timeline is advancing, game is changing, more exciting battles in the future.

Also, I won't mind if all tier 2 and tier 1 guys leave - maybe then I finally reach tier 3.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that. The way I read it, they might be saying anyone who bought Clan Wave 1 since Dec 3 but before they removed modules from the pack are the only ones who are "eligible". Not sure if the ledger is going to show enough to know what happened either way.

    EDIT:
Confirmed, ledger says my LTD modules turned into GSP.

I am happy with the 91 points...

It is enough that you can get back most to all of the skills you had under the previous setup, with 20-30 nodes left to customize. But you know what... if you decide some of the things you had under the previous tree aren't necessary, you have more things to customize with!

One of the real stated goals of this is to force players to make actual decisions regarding their mechs. In order to do that, they have to make it so that you explicitly cannot get everything you want to get... otherwise you have no decisions to make.

Do you need 10 of the same thing for it to work and if not, how to you tell which is which?

    "Skill Node
A single Node within a Skill Class. Most Skill Nodes are part of a set; you'll need to acquire the full set to receive the full Skill benefit for the equipment or ability the Node relates to.

    • For example: The Range 1 Skill Node within the Firepower Skill Class. There are ten Range Skill Nodes in total, all within the Firepower Skill Class."
