It is unplayable because you can't compete unless you invest a ton of time I don't have to play it. So YES. UNPLAYABLE

You do not have to master your mech to play, so no, it is not "UNPLAYABLE".

Maybe not for you but it IS UNPLAYABLE to me. Anyone else wanna take a stab at having an opinion or can you just respect mine?

And it doesn't take that long after you learn the system and that may take a little work, but tutorials are already out there to assist with that.

Howecer, if you've made up your mind, there is little catharsis in salting the forums...

You are absolutely entitled to your opinion and apparently it is unplayable to you...

But it is not inherently unplayable as evidenced by all the people that i have seen in game.

you do realize we can still respect your opinion and have our own too, right? kinda dickbaggy to say "respect my opinion" and not allow anyone else to have one.

After 2 days of playing, I've found I like the skill tree for everything but assaults. Assaults kinda have to go armor instead of speed, as mobility is useless for them, and I always liked being a bit fast for my weight class.

I havent had the time to seriously look into this tree yet.

my request to the devs. there should be a better explanation (ingame) about all this... the historical xp (how does it convert, is it diferent than the other xp? are there other uses for it? why not auto convert into SP) Are the points shared between all mechs??
As I said i barelly looked at it yet, I think I saw Gxp and Cxp? and if we make a choice for the tree and then want to reset - What do we actually lose? how much?
I just didnt feel confortable investing any of the xp types because I didnt know if I can revert or change in the future, in this sense it felt like a trap.

How many years did it take PGI to roll out this shoddy slap together mess of a skill tree? This is what PGI puts out instead of the placeholder? Why is it that when PGI "fixes" something the finished product is worse than the original problem?

Once again PGI says one thing and then does another. PGI assured the player base that players would get c-bills if modules were changed. I remember devs assuring me that I would be taken care of. Instead PGI lies again and does whatever they want instead of what they promised. I suppose I shouldnt expect anything different, a leopard doesnt change its spots.

And once again PGI puts out "content" that is in reality a large nerf to every system involved in the content. The skill system is just nerfing everything that used to be modules, mech agility, consumables, weapon systems, etc. PGI loves to reinvent the wheel over and over again. All these years later and PGI is still continually fooling around with numbers and calling it content.

Russ and Paul must be giving each other high fives and taking a few months off after this. At least there are more people on that island these days.

Yeah I was wondering how they were going to figure things like that... I just sold all my modules I either know were purchased prior to 12/3 or where I was reasonably sure the majority were purchased prior to 12/3... Ended up making 400 million and only had 18k GSP instead of ~36k...

I will reiterate that giving people an ability to sell GSP like inventory at at least the equivalent of selling the module from inventory (i.e. 50% of the price) would assuage many, though I suspect the salt would be real for anyone *expecting* full price.

I like having *some* GSP for insta-leveling new mechs... Whether I'll ever use 18k (let alone 36k) GSP is doubtful... Conversely, I don't see myself needing 1.8 billion cbills if my existing mechs have HSP either.

Yes I know new tech is coming out, but I really doubt I'd burn through that much space bux so quickly...

We should EXPECT full price as we put in FULL time to earn said items. Many of the salty ones have been the biggest supporters of this game over the years. I don't typically overreact much but I am seriously wondering if I want to put time into this. I have more pre-orders I am deciding if I should cancel or not. I am just not feeling it. It feels like a lot of work.

I think most likely I will cancel 1/2 my pre-orders (I can't cancel the Timber MkII) and take a break. Its over due anyway and come back at this later with a fresh perspective so I can enjoy playing again. I enjoy MWO despite its shortcomings but I've been playing this game for over 5 years now ( Sept 2012 closed Beta) ... I think maybe it's just time for a break.

Despite my salt, I think the skill tree needs tweaks and adjustments but is a better way forward for newer players and ultimately for the game itself. I just don't want to deal with it right now.

Apparently aside from differing opinions, we also have different definitions for the word "unplayable".

Well, my only main complaint is that although I have an insane amount of HSP on most of my mechs (and even mechs that I have sold), I was only refunded enough C-Bills to convert enough xp to SP to (re) level three of my mechs.

Thank you movintarget. (though i didnt just mean for myself, some thousands wont read the guide unless it is in game! and i know alot of people that thought mwo was complex, UI and all, before, imagine now)

I did got some cbills from, modules I think? I think they sold all my weapons too (why?). will have to chek it better.

Question for you players, for a starter player vs a mastered mech how much did the gap grow from the old system? is the mastered mech better now than it was in the old system? I think so from what I saw in the tree.

I made a mistake. Both should read increased. Editing the original post.

4. Reskill cost of 400xp each time? What the? PGI wants to support the "comp" community and often this area is where constant build tweaking/reskill will happen the most. Going to need to buy 2-3 of the shame chassis - goodbye game diversity.

How have you not done that already? Most comp mechs I have 2 to 7 copy's depending on the builds.

My feedback

for such a big tree it really lacks customization
half the tree's are rubbish, all its going to do is make a bigger gap from people who min max and people who don't

There a learning curve to be sure, but the bottom line is that you should be looking to use up HSP first, then GSP for mechs that wete not mastered pre-patch.

If you have either HSP or GSP, it cost no additional xp or cbills to unlock skills which is why you should use them first. If your mech wasn't mastered, you can use up all the HSP ypu did get and then other sources to make up the difference.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO PUT MORE THAN 91 POINTS ON A MECH INITIALLY. Once you put SP on a mech, I don't think you can reverse the conversion. The only time you should add more than 91 one is if you plan to respecc...

If you have no HSP on a mech, and you have no GSP in general, then you can tap into HXP (historical xp), XP (acquired from drops post-skill tree), and GXP, but these require cbills so unless you are richer than Blake you will only use this if you have to.

The should not have sold any of your weapons.

For me it's a well-armed strategy, they pull the tree of skills, they kill the game, they get the mw5 and we're all going to play the new game ... it can not be anything else ....

yes my bad I thought it was weapons but it was the pilot nodes breakdown.

"BE CAREFUL NOT TO PUT MORE THAN 91 POINTS ON A MECH INITIALLY. Once you put SP on a mech, I don't think you can reverse the conversion. The only time you should add more than 91 one is if you plan to respecc..."

this is the kind of stuff PGI should make 3xsure people knew. thks for making it clear.

One last question: So imagine I exchange 91 SP. Use them, then want to respect, do i lose them all? What is the cost of a full respect (hxp/gxp?), and Iam assuming partial respecs arent possible.

Respec a node happens if you removed a node you had already purchased to purchase another node, save, then later go back and removed another node but want to reactivate a node you previously purchased, to respec or reactivate that node it is 400XP (or convert 400HXP to 400XP)/

As for converting GXP/XP/HXP to SP, if you have run out of HSP or GSP that had been generated and carried over at patch time, the conversion cost is 800*XP + 45,000 Cbills for each SP.
