So whats the Point f Omnimechs beeing able to swap pods when the skilltree is kinda fixed (unless you want to reskill lots of nodes). Especially for mechs which don't just change laser A for laser B. and chnage between all types of wepaons, this is just a very bad design decision by PG how to handle Omnimechs.

The skilltre entirely kills the Omnimch basic concept making them more into IKEA mechs which you once assemble and better not change again.

I still generally dislike the idea that respeccing requires X, think about all the newbies that try to figure out the game, they won't have many XP and they get hurt so much more than us XP hoarding vets.

Ok, that isn't really a rant, but what do you think about he Omnimech concept and the skilltree, they both contradict each other a lot sinc eit makes Omnimechs and swapping just more effort. YOu probably are better off just buying a second IKEA mech and assemble it the other way.

Well, unless one takes weapon soecific nodes like laser duration or the less general velocity nodes, switching pods won't be an issue. Coold, heat gen, range benifit any type of weapon.

I for one never use omnimechs as omnimechs. If I want to run a different build, I buy another copy for that. For instance, for Timbers I have one for dualgauss, one for gaussPPC, one for dakka, one for laservomit, one for ERLL, and one for brawling. ezpz.

Don't you know your are supposed to buy another copy of the Clanpacks?

The whole system is pretty bad, honestly hadn't even considered its effect on onmimech and refitting for roles - just another thing they didn't consider in their attempt to rush out a new ui for the old system.

Don't put your points in Firepower skill tree, it's not woth 30+ skill point investment anyways.

A skill tree planner isn't helpful.

Omnimechs were designed to be purpose fitted, the skill tree makes them play even more generic (or cost far more) than they did in the prior bad system.

The Weapons tree doesn't seem to be impressive due to the amount of nodes one must spend on it. Therefore omnimechs should focus most of their nodes on generic builds, which means there is almost no issue with pod swapping. As for CW builds, everyone competent got duplicate mechs for that.

I would accept a higher cost per skill on the condition that once unlocked it was yours on that particular mech, so no cost in flipping back and forth between already unlocked skills.

omnimechs are really all about building your boat. i dont think its as bad as people think it is. for example im not going to use a dire wolf as anything but a ballistics boat. there are warhawks for ppc boats. timbys are terrible at ballistics, but are ok for missiles and lasers. then you get mechs like the adder that has a good omnipod set for any desired weapon type boat, or a mixed build if you want.

id also like to point out that a lot of the skill tree nodes are very generic, apply to more than one variant, or are so essential you will use them on everything anyway.

smaller AC builds for AC5's for exampel don't require ANY heat adjustments so a omnimehc abel to do them, does not require any of these nodes neither in the wepaon tree not the other. .

you cna pretty much use a DWF also for a lot of laservomit and that works well, sure it does the Ballistic thing better. But whats the point of fropping the old system and rule of 3 when exactly something like this happens and you buy a single DWF, yet cannot wield 2 different laodouts like lasevomit OR Ballistics on that same mech without having to spent a LOAD of XP to respec. That is absolutely not how Omnimechs were supposed to be, it basically makes them IKEA mechs which is making them limited battlemechs you once build and any kind of customisation afterwards makes you either spend further costs or going with an build unaffected skilling which most of the time is meaning you run something thats inferior. And PGI's idea about skill trees were totally not achieved when you consider them together wiht the omnimechs

yes people with sufficient money and mechbays can do that but think about the newbies. The rule of 3 exchanged for the rule of many or rule of constant XP grind. Not very good for them.

Maybe yes we need more expensive nodes on Omnimechs but then get them as "free respecs" II already amde feedbakc thread about that in the pts 1 or 2 but PGI didn't seemded to care. Ontop of course it needs a "save skill setup" feature as well. th clickfets would even with free respecs be annoying.

Going from an energy load out to a ballistic load out does not require switching a lot of nodes. You have to give up laser duration nodes to gain gauss charge or uac jam chance nodes. No big deal.

Simplifying things for new players is what makes a game stale and is just an excuse.

and what about the other heat nodes not in the weapon tree? why woul you need them if you run gauss based? they would also eb a wasted invenstment. So there is a lot more even outside the weapon skill tree.Or quick ignition in the gauss emch? surely not needed unless you manage to shutdown with the gauss heat :P

Hey, 8 or 9 nodes free'd up for something else!
It's not nearly as daunting as some make it out to be.

"You don't need to buy 3 mechs to master anymore!"

"You need to buy 3 omnimechs and master them if you want to simulate the omnimech experience."

Why aren't omnimech "skills" tied to individual pods? If we have to have a stupid buff up system the least it could do is make sense in the scope of the game's design.

To be fair, PGI dropped the ball on Omni's the first day they were introduced...

They never should have had hard points, just pod space.

They also should have been able to swap pre-saved load outs during the drop count down, to mimic the ability of Omni's to have their load out tailored for the mission profile.

To me that would've been a strong counter to the ability that was given to each and every battlemech in MWO, a factory level refit center.

In MWO, the concept of an "OmniMech" is mostly just window dressing. You are still supposed to buy more Mechs.

But why are you surprised? What we have is just an arena-based shooter with shallow BattleTech flavor suffering from delusions of eSports grandeur.

One of the underlying principles behind BattleTech is the asymmetry between the Clans and IS. But PGI insists on pursuing "sameness", allegedly in the name of "balance".

I say allegedly because ... well ... MVP.
