Did you get any cbills to go with it?

Also, you can now level more than 60 Mechs to top condition. It's gonna take me a while to get around to playing 60 different Mechs, and I got a 9100 SP refund...

no just the skill points.

had a quick look at the trees, not touching till i know more cause looks dangerous.

i notice it forces you to buy things you may not want or need to get to things you do.

Even those are somewhat helpful for shorter ranged builds. Being able to fire SRMs those extra 30m comes in handy when you need it.

I hated the GSP refund at first, but now, I'm kinda meh to it. I've already used up almost 2.5K of my 20K GSP refund testing builds.

6500 SP is 5.2 million XP and 292 million C-bills you don't have to have to grind. How long would that take you??

Honestly, I wish I would have gotten 6500 SP because the 2500ish I got are starting to go fast. I got 115 mechs most of which I only leveled up to unlock my elites which means about 70 missing around 34 SP each. Also since they dropped the 3 mech rule, I have bought like 5 new mechs, each one requiring 91 SP to max out. That is 455 SP used there. I also have 7 new mechs coming in July so another 637 points. I will also probably pick up at least one variant of the Super Nova, Assassin and maybe Roughneck when they come out for C-bills so at least 273 SP needed there.

So:

70 x 34 = 2380 SP
+ 455 + 637 + 273 for a total of 3745 SP

Ack!!! I better get to grinding because I am over 1000 SP short of my immediate needs.

On the other hand, guess I should be thankful for the fact that I don't have to grind out 2500 SP because it is saving me having to grind 112 million C-bills and 2 million XP. At my average of 165k earned per match and 1466 XP, it would only take me roughly another 1300 or so battles to accomplish all that.

I know each person's situation is different but this refund isn't as bad as many are making it out to be and I honestly can't say I would have benefited more from getting all my C-bills back, not even by a long shot.

First, any modules you bought after PGI announced the new skill tree was refunded because the cbills you spent on modules before that time were direct investments of Cbills into Mech performance. If you bought modules BEFORE the announcement, it was because you were trying to improve Mech performance by means of sensor upgrades, weapon enhancements, etc. The GSP "refund" is a conversion of the Cbills you spend on performance enhancements (modules) into performance enhancements (nodes). See? You bought performance enhancements, you received performance enhancements.

You did not buy any modules pre-announcement for the purpose of using them for a while and then selling them back for full price. You know that you can't just buy stuff and sell it back for ful price. All those modules that were "refunded" as GSP are actually just the performance enhancements you bought earlier returning to your account as performance enhancements.

___

Secondly, they did refund every single Cbill you spent on modules ever since they announced the new skill tree.

___

Third, the "Refund" amounts we received are LARGER IN VALUE than the value of the Mechs and modules beforehand.

If you previously "mastered" a Mech and did not purchase a Single Module, then you are getting 91 SKill Node's worth of GSP... enough to represent a Mech with modules installed. If you also had modules, then those were refunded as additional GSP that can be spent on unmastered Mechs. The refund is larger than the investment. Invest Zero modules, receive the value of a Mech with modules. Invest a Mech with modules, receive a Mech valued as fully-module'd and also additional experience to level up other Mechs for free.

Although you have fewer Cbills under the compromise solution, you have more Mechs ready to Master and don't have to invest any more Cbills into modules since the GSP that came as exchange for your modules acts as the Cbills you would have spent on modules anyways.

(and I did not ask for the new compromise solution, but I am happy with how fat the return was)

Whale= someone who has spent a lot of real money (usually measured in thousands of dollars)

Cheapskates = Someone who has a lot of mechs and not many modules (Russ's definition)

Not all whales are cheapskates and not all cheapskates are whales.

The final version of the module refund system wasn't the solution that "cheapskates" asked for...triggered, maybe, or provided the last straw that broke the camel's back...but not asked for specifically. But yes, I also believe that everyone got more value than they originally would have if they had only received C-bills in return. My own solution before they came up with this one was to allow 100% C-bill refunds for modules as planned, but to also allow whales/cheapskates to sell off unwanted mechs for 100% of cost, at least for a week or month after the trees went live, to provide a similar C-bill influx to help fund the new skill trees. I guess they started thinking more about what modules really represented and decided that since they weren't going to give mech-rich/module-poor players 100% of their mech costs back, that converting modules to GSP was better.

So, me being a module-swapper, because prior to FW it didn't make sense to have more than one of each, I'm still going to have to sell off some mechs at 25-30% of their original cost to skill up the ones that I want to keep because I didn't have enough of a GSP refund to skill them up as I would like, plus have some extra SP in case I need to respec after some experimenting. Part of my problem was that I took a break, and when I came back, the old mastered mechs that were good when I left, Highlander, Victor, Cataphract, weren't the ones that are good now, or even the ones that were relevant in FW, so I have a lot of SP locked up in mechs I probably won't use again.

It's interesting that the one thing they don't allow for with the skill tree is to convert HSP to GSP in any fashion, either for C-bills or MC, so you can move the points from unusable mechs to other mechs. You can convert mech XP to GXP, but then you still have the C-bill cost to use GXP to buy SP.
