the portal works fine but i went and run the repair tool hoping it would clean up the instal, and it just froze. the game still works fine its just thats something that is going to need to be addressed asap (90 days).

If you can figure out what file it freezes on, that helps.

When it does screw up, you can still rerun it again. It does clean some remnants of the install AFAIK, but I personally am not sure if it does a thorough enough job of that. You could just uninstall/reinstall Portal (when uninstalling, make sure all folders for JUST the MWO Portal are deleted) and see if that helps. The old frontend IIRC was part of the base install (it didn't have quite have its own folders, it was kinda embedded beyond the Bin folders).

it checks everything in the bin32 folder and gets lost from there. probibly a pathing issue.

the repair tool used to scan everything and thin ask for confirmation before applying the fix, its just not finishing the scan. i doubt it will break anything as far as game files goes. of course when you do have a problem and go to run it there will be salt.

it might also need to go through one patching cycle to get a proper file manifest.

If there's something broken in between, it's a legit problem.

You can still run the repair exe in the mwo directory

can run it directly from the portal, too.

Top left of the Portal, three blue bars. click on it, it's the third option. The Repair tool runs EXACTLY the same from it.

People really will whine about anything in this community.

well, since there isn't..then it's not legit?

I've used the term for over 30 years. Blame it on Dr Who, I guess.

Engrish. It's a wonderful thing. And totally illogical. But that's a discussion for another day.

What's actually considered to be wrong with the portal?

I've been using it for six months and haven't detected any problem with it.

Well **** it's a British term, you know how us Americans are. We tend to not learn about crap like that.

i think he was refering to the problem i had with the repair tool. i have a hunch that it just needs to go through a patch cycle to get what it needs (and frankly, until it completes a patch cycle successfully i have my doubts). but this is a problem with the repair tool itself, which is a seperate application, that button in the new portal is just a shell command.

Have to take your word for it. I have a frikking PoS Potato laptop, and it works fine for me. (well, aside from my GPU threatening to melt down all the time, but that is a separate issue) But as with anything CryEngine related...YMMV. I have seen top end rigs that ran it like crap... and tater tots that ran it fine.

I give up trying to find a rhyme nor reason.

If someone is experiencing it and I'm not, sometimes it's on their end. It doesn't mean there isn't something wrong with it. It just means that unless the majority is complaining about it, it's harder to track down the problem. It's not like .NET can't/won't screw up (it can), so there's a lot of things that can go wrong.

No software is immune to effups, but it's easier to isolate problems when people can install cleanly or have less poop going on vs someone that doesn't pay attention to things and lets problems pile up to a breaking point.

Don't be a p***y, scro. Think with Portals.

Or, like me, just use Steam. Fast, stable.

Roger, Mischief. Made the switch to Steam this morning. Much happier with it since Steam doesn't eat up 30 extra gigs every time MWO wants to patch itself. :P
