Yeah, that's a pretty steep learning curve for trying to bait someone into the game!
Start them off by showing how fast you can get into a QP match, they will get sucked into FP own their own later!

Early phase 3 was the hight of faction play.. ..for example LT was seriously well thought out feature, made you really want to drop while that kill stealer was active.

I suppose my dmg score dropped by 40% in favor of the beloved LT.
But hopefully its a bit better balanced now

He does! Mean old Pat! He makes us do such horrible things!
Like...change our tactics! Change our drop decks! Modify our weapons! It hurts so baaaaaaaaad! <3
To think of it! The horror! THE HORROR of adjusting to your enemy, battlefield, and mission!

I'm pretty sure they're not enjoying a match where they can't even get their trial mechs out of spawn before they're dissected by 12 custom built, meta'd mechs. In fact, you can see them crying about it every other post here in the forums.
Sad part is, it's not up to us to say who and what is allowed into FW....it's all on PGI. Seems pretty obvious to me that they simply don't care about those lowest common denominators. Sure, they care enough to try to get them to buy mech packs...but don't really care if they get fed up and leave afterwards.

Stand there and take it? Or move in and slap the crap out of your enemy?

Generally speaking, you regroup and push the assault. Most of the time, the "elite, world class LRM masters" have difficulty unzooming and getting away from you. They tend to be stationary turrets hoping their brawlers will protect them.
Now, granted, that's never going to happen if your team consists of potatoes itself. All you can do is fire skill rockets from spawn and hope you end up with a less than embarrassing score.

As for me I'm done with faction play except for the event stuff. I won't be a !#!*(@# chew toy.

1. Bring competitive drop decks to the battlefield (maps/temperatures/game type/fighting range)
2. Ensure you are able to handle these mechs properly
3. Have an understanding of using tactical team maneuvers
4. Communicate in a group based on your role in the battle
You can improve yourself by puging around for some time in QP or FP, but it will take much more time compared to someone who...
- tries to socialize himself on the different open faction TS servers
- discusses his take aways from played games with others on his level or even better players
- find like-minded people to play with on a regular basis
All this can be done even without joining a unit. And what is even better, nearly all (I guess) of the MWO units will let you join in their groups for some drops, without expecting you to join for life!
The only thing a new player has to do is:
- be open to others in game
- use the forum to find links to the currently populated TS servers
- don't be afraid to take the "first step"
- don't take feedback as an insult and use it to improve yourself. Don't take every phrase personally, we are all human (although clansman are genetically superior)

My entire playstyle and my early mechpiloting skills were learned In CW phase one, going up against coordinated units half the time. When you've a team backing you up and helping cover for your mistakes they don't hurt as much, and for me, means I've less incentive to improve. Sure, I still try, but I 'unno. It's different when you miss-position and your team bails you out, as opposed to when you're pugging and you just lose the mech cuz no one's coming to your assistance. Less visceral incentive to learn for me.
I know I think an learn different from most, but for me, there was no better school for brawling than trying to take out a mech during a full twelve mech push whilst everyone else was retreating.
I salute those who trained me. <o.

Finding it a waste of time to play better teams is going to severely inhibit your ability to get better at this game, and giving up is going to take away any remaining chance you have but hey, it's your game man, play it how you want.

Puggers that want to only play puggers should stick to quick play, if they are looking to improve and play with unit level tactics then please come to FP and see what unit you would like to be apart of.

What you say would hold true in normal circumstances. But getting stomped by people with superior mechs and who play together day in an day out forming a tight unit isn't going to make me a better player. I can't counter either advantage as a solo mechwarrior. Even if you argue that the clan mechs aren't superior (hogwash) you still have to admit that a coordinated well honed unit is always going to beat a pug. All I learn from that defeat is that I need to try and outnumber the enemy by creating my own unit or joining one. Both are hassles I don't want in my life. Ultimately the price of winning at FP becomes to high to pay if I have to be more social to do it. I want to win by being a better mechwarrior. Not by being a better brown noser and elite team suck up.
