Oh bloody hell too many mechs that I want!

Please give me reasons why the amazing looking escalation mechs are actually rubbish and I shouldn't want to buy them... the nightstar and Osiris especially...

Don't lie to yourself, they're amazing. The Nightstar's special camo is even based on Van Gogh's "The Starry Night"

It's so tempting just to get the mech alone for that piece of art, one my favorites when I was a kid.

These all look good to very good. The big question mark is the Nova Cat because that thing is hot as hell with true double heat sinks, can't really run different types of loadouts than hot-as-hell big energy weapons, and MWO doesn't have true double heat sinks. This needs heat dissipation quirks.

PGI appears to be confirming what I have suspected for awhile and that the removal of the rule of three from their new business model is not going to hurt them because they appear to be embracing ever increasing power creep (just look at the hardpoints on those things), and they are making some gorgeous mechs that people will throw money at even if they don't want to buy three.

PGI I may mock you for a lot of dumb things that you do, but hiring Alex and letting him do this stuff is going to keep you swimming in whale cash for a good long time...even if all those high hard points are going to trash the diversity and balanced game play you claim to strive for.

None of these will be stronger than what is already in game.

They did it with the Civil war pack as well.

That's because it is inspired by that painting, as I said.

Not sure how we can determine "stronger", but I'd bet that they most certainly will be.
For example, the Nightstar will be the new IS meta assault. I suspect that the Battlemaster gets a nerf to make sure that that happens. Even in the absence of that, it will certainly be as good as and probably better than the Banshee.

They fill totally different roles. The Battlemaster and Wubshee are fast energy boats and the Nightstar is more of a gunboat, even it's 400 capable variant will need to use it's ballistic slots. I do agree it'll be a T1 mech, that was part of it's appeal what with the powerhouses the Clans have been getting.

We will see if the new balance guy have a clue then. From link in post#89

Q: What guarantees can be made about the balance of these Mechs?
Only that we will try to provide as fair an experience for all players, Clans and Inner Sphere alike. This may mean "nerfing" or "buffing" some weapons or adding Quirks to the 'Mechs at a later date.

"roles"

Mechs mount guns for the singular purpose...or role...of killing other mechs. Some mount more than others. Some mount them higher than others. Those that have more and higher guns are better at performing their single role better than other mechs. Looking at those images and potential loadouts, it seems readily apparent that these mechs are going to be superior performers in this one role that matters.

Well if you want to split hairs like that then let's just say play style then. Yes the Nightstar and others will have their areas of strength but they won't play the same and thus won't use the same tactics, etc.

Nightstar definitely strikes me as both the new dakka boat and the new ppc guass boat, being as the arm and torso hardpoints seem to be at the same level as cockpit.

It'll be nice having a ppc guass sniper on is side as nothing thy had filled that role satisfactorily.

Duh!!!!

I will say though this is an adult game... I'm lucky that i have a well paying career because this is a bad thing to be blowing real money on, esp when there is a risk a nerf pass may render your $280 worth of mechs less good than they were when you bought them. That not even counting the $140 i spend for the Uzil and Anni.

Thats akin to purchasing a Corvette z06 with an ls and the manufacture comes back to you in 6 months later and tells you the motor is too powerful, we're downgrading you to a NA 4 cylinder...yes extreme of an extreme example.., but same concept.

but again...good career, so I have plenty of money to blow on booze and other crap(s)

You are under-estimating the Banshee, which I think we'll see running a Gauss and two HPPC with 30 rounds and up to 17 DHS on a 350 LFE. The Night Star's answer is twin Gauss and an HPPC, but it's slower with wider weapon mounts and easier sides. At best it's a wash.

The Battlemaster is going to get left behind regardless of the Nightstar or nerfs when the new tech roles around simply because the Banshee 3E is getting tons of new toys that put it ahead while the Battlemaster is getting nothing it can really make use of except the LFE and, maybe, PPCs.

4 PPCs in those high mounts though...

I can see the Nightstar, maybe, but all the others are interesting sidegrades at best.
