I could be wrong but to make up the speed different, the 90 ton mech has to mount a much larger engine, weighing significantly more. The engine weight difference usually will eat up the 5 extra tons meaning you may or may not end up with less usable tonnage at the end of the day. There are a few weight classes where this isn't true for example, the 75 ton weight usually provides the optimal engine weight to free usable tonnage ratio as well as a few other weights.

In the case of 85t vs 90t on a 4/6/3 platform, the 85t unit gets a 340 series engine with 3 x 1t JJ's while the 90t platform gets a 360 series engine with 3 x 2t JJ's. In this case the weight of the engine, internal skeleton and jump Jets add up to more than 5t in difference.

Same here. Then again they've made a lot of weird choices. Watch. MkIl has no lower actuators but will still have a bad torso twist.

Honestly, not sure if it would fit.

Since cUAC have a duration, it might not be a huge difference in function.

I mean, the RACs will have long duration with lag-time in the lead-up. The cUACs let you instantly spit the damage out, which gives you a leg-up if you catch the RAC user out. I also bet that there's a cone of fire on the RACs. I would be very surprised if there wasn't.

cUAC/10 should fit on the MCII-B. You have 17.5 t free after 2x10+2x5 on a cXL 325 (using the Boiler with 2x10, 2xcLPL and 1x cMPL as template), leaving plenty of room for ammo, moar engine, or other stuff. Should be good.

Depends on how you build them and if you share engines. But they work out to about the same if you don't factor that in.

Depends on the equipment they come with. The Nightstars mostly come with XL engines, Double Heatsinks, etc., so the prices should be fairly similar. The MCII will be more expensive simply because it has a bigger engine and EndoSteel.

'sees a thread mentioning the Mad Cat MKII'

Spoiler

...I think it's obvious I'd side with the Mad Cat MK II. She's a top of the line Clan Diamond Shark product, made of only the finest materials, by specially trained and licensed craftsmen. Now, the Nightstar... Well, I'm sure she matches Inner Sphere production standards, for what that's worth.

Just remember, "When in doubt, always choose Diamond Shark!" ;)

Can the MK2 mount dual hvy gauss? No? Well the Nightstar can. Come and get your Fafnir fix.

Diamond Shark clansman convincing the audience consisting of representatives of every Clan and House that the Mad Cat Mk. II is the next big thing in Clan and Inner Sphere relations. Not only is it amazing but magical.

But is it really going to be better then an ANNI or Mauler doing the dual Gauss thing?

Not quite and I think when the Mad Cat MK II is in the game I'll make this commercial.

For me, the choice between MadCat Mk2 and Nightstar is clear.. The MadCat has missle pods..

therefore... LURMS away!

But they are pretty similar mechs.. so I will probably buy both when they come out for cbills..

MCII > Nightstar. Not even a contest. Unless the IS mech gets good quirks.

I would say this is pretty much even for me. No winner, they're both pretty much top guns. Only Fafnir or Marauder 2 could win over this.

Not sure why everyone is so excited about RACs and the mechs that can fit them. PGI has already stated they will have a long spin up and spin down time. Translation: "HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAISTHOUGHTHTYECOULDHAVENAIZTHINGSHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAOWNED!"

Easily because of where the weapons are mounted on the mech. The Nightstar's are in line with its cockpit. Both the Mauler & Anni have waist high mounts and this is made worse for the Anni with its periscope cockpit. I'm also willing to be the Nightstar will have a better mobility rating than the Anni.

Mauler guns ain't waist-level. The cockpit not being at the top of the NSR means it and the MAL expose about the same torso amount. The NSR can do Gauss+PPC better, though, since the arm dangles on the MAL. MAL better at pure ballistics, because arms can strip.

Arms can be stripped but at least for me that's not a problem I've had to deal with. I'd say they're just about even although x6 rac2s on the mx90 with a lfe could be quite good.

As a Freelancer, I'm not bound to IS or Clan. I pick the mech that I find interesting with a good load out. But sometimes I pick one just because it looks like a mean SOB just standing there. The Assassins were in that category and well, Looks does not aways translate into a good mech!

For old MW4 times sake, I'll go with the MAD CAT Mk. II
