I'm pondering this as well, I really want the Nightstar because I love IS Assault mechs but the MKII has a much better hero and getting $20 for 3 and $15 for the Hero is cheaper than Collector's edition Nightstar by $5 and you get similar 30% cBill mechs.

Arrrrrrgh I been flipping coins over this all night.
If you are disappointed in the result, then you want the other one.

Unless you are disappointed in both, then just don't get the mech(s).

MCM2 will almost certainly be better. Faster, Clan XL, Clan weapons. Only thing that would make me hesitate is if the ears stay when missiles aren't fitted.

Success of the Nightstar hinges entirely on the civil war ballistics being good (which is not a certainty)- then it's competing with the Mauler, Sleipnir, and Annihilator which will all have better hardpoint locations. Sleipnir and MX90 will probably still be better than the Nightstar since tight convergence is much stronger than an extra 5t.

I'd rather take the Annihilator than either of them.

Nightstar because it's an IS mech and a nice one as well. The two of them should be on a similar performance level, though. The Nightstar is also, comparing concept arts, sexy as hell, while the MKII doesn't look bulky enough for an assault.

I don't really see how this is a contest. Now that the game has gone back to Gauss vomit, the Nightstar is at a significant disadvantage because IS. Yeah it might get some quirks but still, there's no substitute for 80-90 damage Gauss vomit alpha strikes. Best you can hope for there is 2LL, 3 ER ML and 2 Gauss (63 damage) and I believe an LFE300 with 12 DHS.

It might be able to dakka better than the MCII-B (which can do the old 2 UAC10 2 UAC5 build with an XL350), but early theorycrafting suggests that you are stuck with an LFE285, 2 UAC10s and 2 UAC5s (that's right, Dire Whale speed, you can already do this build on a Mauler with a STD270 because you can strip arms, it just has a tiny bit less ammo) if you try to do the same thing without going XL, and thats with only 10 DHS, making that build incredibly hot because for whatever reason IS UAC10s are 33% hotter than Clan UAC10s.

NS is gonna be at 95 tons and has high mounts. I bet its agility is gonna be worse than Mauler and MCII.

Nightstar because it looks way better, especially like the Starry Night pattern, hero pattern is nice too. Sadly I've exhausted my mwo funds for the moment.

Nightstar for sure , But the question is how will they deal with its 3.5 tons more armor than the banshee ? it has more armor than some 100 ton mechs 18.5 tons of armor the Banshee has 15 tons the atlas 20 tons , It will need 145 points of armor in the center torso and 105 in the left and right torso and 80 in the arms if it is to be cannon accurate . We will see ... will PGI deliver ?.

It doesn't have more than 95 tonners can have in this game. The Banshee just comes with armor stripped, that's why it only has 15 tons. Max armor for a 95 tonner is 586, which is what the Nightstar has.

It better not, because with the hardpoint restrictions it would go straight into the Uziel bucket.
