The only reason I can see for getting multiple copies of a mech is to put them in a drop deck. Or if I die a lot and want to get into a new match quickly.
Maybe because PGI wants people to stop going to MetaMechs and using only the most MetaEffective build for a mech, which, unless PGI somehow makes match score not so heavily dependent on pure damage output, isn't going to happen.
Also probably because trying to experiment on a single mech now also requires an XP investment beyond the norm. Played a mech but want to change the weapons? Better hope you've played enough to have a gob of extra XP to spend on reactivating skill nodes you deactivated.
It would likely be simpler to buy multiple copies of the same mech and equip them differently right from the get go and then skill them up individually as you go. Sure it'll cost more in C-Bills, but you won't waste XP trying to re-spec every time.
