I don't like this change. Look at the ballistic arm, now the base where the barrel is attached is square, whereas originally it looked circular.

Seems like it got an art pass when they adjusted the CT mounts. Could've prepped it for UAC/RAC.

Hopefully that's just another error on their part.

I'd go for a bet that new arm is how it's gonna be. And also, many mounts with similar looks will get moved to that standard when the CW art pass happens.

Ah, the Centurion effect. I hope you like gun metal. Its highly probable that this downgrade will be applied to ALL Urbanmechs not just the K9.

Eh, K9 is getting the best ballistic quirks of the Urbies. It lacks energy quirks, but gets much armor instead.

I will probably NOT be using it for my primary energy Urb, but rather use that one with the 10% energy range (4 en mounts) or 10% energy cooldown (3 en mounts). However, if I do choose to go Autocannon, then it's K9 time.

this could be a UAC only thing,
PGI did say that they wanted every Weapon system to be distinguishable,
including Different PPC types, LBXs, ACs, UACs, MRMs to LRMs, Ect,

A pity.
I really hate the square box with a barrel sticking out look for the weapons.

Edit.

I checked out all the other screenshots as well.
ALL of the mechs have their geometry CHANGED (most easily noticeable with the laser pegs). They're being made completely the exact bloody same across all mechs.

TBH, it's hit and miss. Some work, some don't. In this case, I actually prefer it.

It's not the generic flat box like the Centurion's arm, for instance.

It's confirmed in the patch notes that they're ruining the aesthetics of the ballistic arm in the patch for all UrbanMechs.

I think it looks better, TBH.

I really hope that this is just local to the K9 if ever.

I like the round mount better because to me it suggests the presence of a recoil compensator. However, on a scale of HBK secondary ballistic placement to Centurion missile door deletion this change doesn't even rate a Commando SRM chestplate level of annoyance. As long as it doesn't mess up the textures on my R63(S), I'll be imperceptibly irritated. Insignificantly irked. Minimally miffed, even... for all of about a week, and then I'll be over it.

I will admit to being somewhat perplexed as to the reason for it, however. Seems like a case of "let's go fix things that ain't broke" to me.

according to the notes, apparently it wasn't going to fit all the new dynamic weapons. What or why that would be IDK, I doubt it will matter on the K9, but I guess with some that can pack 3-4 ballistics it might matter.

Big thing with aesthetic changes.... sometimes (centurion arm) they are abject fails to pretty much everyone. A lot of time, like this? Some folks will hate it, some won't notice and others like me? Actually prefer it (just look at my own Urbanmech art, and it's largely the way I've always leaned)

Oh ****, i think it's for the introduction of the R68, if they decide a square missile rack.

****. ****. ****.

****. ****. Damn.

If it's weapon specific, they should just make something like the UAC10 or UAC20 double barrel square, and the rest is circle.

You may have a point about the multiple ballistics. More than two ballistics makes the current arm look like somebody gave it weird gun-tumors... I guess that didn't occur to me because there's only one variant I have more than one ballistic mounted on, and that's my heretical laser/MG Urb that I hardly ever drive. Box-shaped mounts would at least improve on that, but a little more detail around the gun housing would not go amiss.

I think that's probably what bugs me about it- the gun looks like a fridge magnet on a flat plate, instead of a massive piece of equipment that is mostly internally mounted with only the barrel sticking out. Slap a ring around the barrel or some cross-braces where it meets the arm to give the appearance of a heavy-duty structure and that fixes that.

To be fair, I did post it yesterday 11:31 PM. But Alexander Garden posted the notes Today at 10:08 AM.

Anyways, they could have just left the other guns alone and let the new gun have this square base. Have the RAC2 and RAC5, the LB2X, LB5X, and LB20X the circular base. While the others have square base.
