So Russ just announced in the town hall that he's considering looking into Solaris as a possible development route. This would be instead of pursuing something like more mech packs, and releasing Solaris as a pre-order.

He did though wonder to the group what people would be interested in for the mode, and what people's thoughts on it would be.

So what are your thoughts?

Personally, I'd like to slug it out in Solaris, both 1v1, team vs team, and Free-For-All. I'll have to do some thinking about how best it would work mechanics wise (new mode, new subset of games, etc). I though would probably jump on a pre-order for it.

I want to see 1v1, 2v2 and FFA included in the Solaris development. I would buy into that and support it with cash.

The problem with making Solaris a "paid" mode is queue/population.

But making a Solaris-themed mechpack to help the developmento of the feature is not a bad idea. Which mechs it would get? Oh well, I can't think of something more Solaris than mechs with melee weapons... (Scarabus, Hatchetman, Axman and Berserker!)

PS: I still want that PGI add bots to the Private Lobby.

PPS: There are still some Clan mechs that need to be added, like the Fire Moth, the Black Lanner, the Rifleman IIC, the Warhammer IIC and the Blood Asp.

PPPS: a "MOBA" game mode with AI controled vehicles (tanks, VTOLs, etc.) and 4-mech dropships would be amazing.

PPPPS: someone suggested adding a version of the Battletech TCG to MWO. Sounds crazy, but look the success of Gwent.

PPPPPS: the Piranha battlemech might be too powerful with all those machineguns. I did some simulations and 14+ DPS could be gamebreaking, even in short bursts. I guess we'll have a taste of it soon, with 8 MGs (with the new MLX and ACH omnipods).

I've always suggested Solaris as a rotating schedule, it would look something like this,

Week 1 --- 1v1
Week 2 --- FFA
Week 3 --- 4v4
Week 4 --- back to 1v1, and so on.

Could even have a week of 2v2 as well. Rotating schedule alleviates queue/bucket issues, so could realistically have as many "modes" as you like.

I'm personally fine with it, but depends on what will actually be added in. And what we will be getting. The only fear I have is it might gate out f2p players personally.

They are a business, I understand if they want to make money off someone and drop mekpacs for awhile. Which I think they were getting at that, since Piranha is "on hold".

This is going to be tough decision for me since I wish they would develop both Solaris and finish up some more remaining mechs. Not too keen to buying map packs now.

Yes, absolutely, but first of all I wouldn't want to come at the expense of the rest of the game.

I really liked the idea of not just picking a mech out of the mechbay and playing it like another mode, it would be nice to feel invested in a particular mech (which I think is my favorite part of the skill tree).

Classes Light/Medium/Heavy/Assault/Unlimited would be great. Lots that could be done with this.

Doesn't he announce Solaris at every townhall/convention?

Clearly the demand is there. I would much prefer 1v1 over group play, but it's in PGI's court to make happen. They need to put forward a concrete proposal before people can provide any meaningful feedback.

It would be interesting if progressing though the ranks would be a way to get unique decals and possible extra geometry for mechs.

also i belive that voice acting (for the announcer) will be extremly important
as on an unrelated note, selling sound/voice packs might be popular

Solaris as a paid separate "pack" option? Zero interest.

if they are looking for additional revenue streams (which it certainly sounded that way) solaris pay 2 play is an absolute no brainer with p2p DLC's. FFA of some number of course. MLL has a very fun solaris they could look at.

Russ made it sound like they want to sell pre-order packs to fund additional features for Solaris. Not that you had to pay to play it. And the pre-orders themselves would come with goodies.

I think they can combat this by breaking it up later. You get a pre-order and get early access, with the standard free cockpit items, color schemes, titles, decals or maybe a hero Solaris mech. Queue a run of events for Solaris challenges etc, then open it up to gen pug population in 1-2 months.

Yeah, this is my main concern. How good would it be if there are only paying players in the queues? I'm UBER interested in a 1v1 queue, even a FFA queue... but I'm still surfing the f2p wave, and I don't plan on wiping out any time soon, so a pay-only Solaris would keep me away. =[

Beside adding melee to the game, 1v1 and/or FFA queue is probably the feature I want the most.

I want solaris in my body.

Maybe do something similar to Overwatch's brawl?(different tab, multiple modes on rotations) Maybe a spectator placing cbill bets system a la Salty Bets? One thing for sure is it needs to be simple. I want to click a button and fight somebody.

Oh and get my boy George Ledoux/Duncan Fisher on the job.

The more I think about it I am more interested in a true revamp of Faction warfare over a solaris mode. Though that is cool, I think it is more important to work on reaching the peak potential of modes we already have. QP is currently the most solid mode and with matchmaking being available to everyone, do we really need a one v one mode??? What happened to the idea of a true war taking place across the inner sphere? Why do we have to settle for a mediocre faction system? I do not deny the potential fun factor of a solaris mode, but if they cannot give us a good faction system what makes you think they can actually deliver a full fledged solaris mode like Russ described...

Obviously I'm at the whim of PGI, and they may or may not actually care about my opinion. It would take me seeing this mode in the flesh before I would pay money to back it. I will do my best to follow this and gauge the reactions of the public.

Absolutely interested. 1v1, 2v2, and FFA leagues with a leaderboard, spectate mode, and the ability to bet C-Bills on pilots/teams would be amazing. I'd support that.

However, I still would like to see more new mechs added. Including that Piranha.
