Let's say they have become my go-to missile weapon on clan mechs. I may pack SRMs as a knife fight back-up but tend to have laser slots for that.
The damage ATMs do in their CQC bracket is simply amazing. AND, you can shoot around corners! ^^
So.. Atms..

I am actually enjoying ATMs a lot on my mad dog (only mech I've tried them on so far). They reward a really aggressive play style but the minimum range puts a really strange constraint on it, also the required face time is a really big downside. And you really need other mechs around you to be effective and keep the enemy outside the minimum range.
There is one thing I've learned using them though is don't shut down in front of an ATM mech. I know, I know shutting down is bad all around blah blah blah, but you can fire without the lock and that mech never starts up again. I haven't seen a mech shut down in front of my mad dog and live yet. I can't really say that for some of my other mechs.
They are pretty good in their role but are by no means op. They are really easy to counter. I think I'm going to try them on one of my shadow cats next to see how the mobility helps keep them in the sweet spot.
