The one -and only- time HG actually went to trial over a similar matter Hasbro beat the crap out of them; and so they're trying to avoid doing that again with PGI, because it's actually really clear that they'd lose.

Actually no, the SDCC GIJOE Sky Stryker/Transformers Jetfire case never went to trial either. Both Hasbro and HG agreed to a dismissal, because yes, Hasbro "would" have beaten the ever-living crap out of HG if it did go to trial, simply because Hasbro has easily ten times the amount of dosh to throw around compared to HG.

This case against PGI is very literally the first time that whoever HG targeted has put their foot down and said "Yeah, No~!" to their shenanigans.

What really surprises me, and has for years, is Harmony Gold’s absolute refusal to license the Unseen. To *anyone.* *Ever.* For any reason.

They could make a pile of dough ten feet tall if they’d license those 41 mechs to Battletech businesses. They’re ignoring a potential gold mine, they could control the appearance of any Reseen coming out per the licensing agreement, and they like nothing more than money. It mystifies me why they won’t, it certainly wouldn’t dilute their product at all.

Huh . . . I stand corrected. I thought Hasbro actually got HG into a courtroom.

Regardless, yeah, Hasbro did beat the crap out of them; and frankly, PGI has even more on their side then Hasbro did. IF the case isn't dismissed outright, and HG is actually dragged kicking and screaming into a courtroom by PGI, then PGI has more than enough evidence to take HG to task.

Might be a condition imposed by Big West. Who knows what might come up from this rogatory should it be granted.

If they actually agreed to license, then it would have quickly become apparent that they didn't have the rights to what they said they had the rights to. It wouldn't have taken a Japanese court case and more arbitration between Tatsunoko and HG for all of their shenanigans to come to light.

As stated by PGI in one of their filings (paraphrasing): "HG having enough money to bully others, and those people not having enough money and/or incentive to fight HG is NOT proof that HG has the rights and precedent that they're claiming."

To their credit, this is one of those rights they do not have and actually recognise is not theirs to use.
You can even see it mentioned in this very case. There's the mails between Brian and a HG representative. Said conversation basically ends with the person in question saying that they can't license the designs out because of legal reasons.

No, HG stated they can't license the designs out because they already exclusively licensed them out to someone else.
I smell a lawsuit from that party against HG.

Ah, okay. Wouldn't that make the company in question Palladium games?

It would make sense, I guess? I mean, he was asking why HG never licensed the designs over to Topps.
Well, if they kept a perpetual license on tabletop with Palladium it makes all the sense in the world to reject such proposals.

Too bad HG pulled Palladium's license recently... I think that might have had something to do with the tactics game that was being made and fell apart...

That game had 2 feet in the grave long before the license was pulled. If you think HG is shady you should check out some of the shenanigans that Palaidium pulled with that game .

Just saying, I think that also helped put a nail in that coffin. Palladium is in some serious trouble I think, financially right now. And that's too bad, I really like (and hate) my collection of first edition Robotech RPG books...

Unknown. I would consider it highly questionable - we're talking about video game license, which tend to be a separate thing from boardgame / tabletop rpg licenses.

I really did like their game play ideas. With rifts you could literally be anything you wanted and I liked all the back story the Robotech rpg added though none of it was cannon.

Why I'll never support Harmony Gold. HappyConsoleGamer's video may be old, but it's still relevant:

Well seeing youtube always changing the algorithm constantly( and not always for good) can't blame the guy trying to make a living off of youtube.

He must be doing well. Back when he first started he was in dire need of a sandwich, fortunately he doesn't have that problem anymore.
