Because we need a new thread to geek out on. Space battles and robots are fun, now let's do power armors. Get on the wikis.

Power Armors:
  • Elemental Battle Armor (Battletech/ Clan Elementals)
  • Mark 7 Aquila (Warhammer 40k / Space Marines)
  • MJOLNIR Mark 6 (Halo / Spartan II)
  • Iron Man Mark 4 (Marvel / Tony Stark, possibly others)
  • Varia Suit (Metroid / Samus Aran, possibly others)
  • Nanosuit 2 (Crysis / US Marines)
  • CMC-400 (Starcraft / Terrans)
  • Marauder (Starship Troopers / Federation)
Ground Rules:
  • Assume the setting is a war-torn city.
  • One force must be met by another force of equal sides.
  • Neither side can have an advantageous position over one another to begin with.
  • No other elements from their respective canons may be incorporated unless they are necessary for the power suits/soldiers to function.
  • Battling individuals/groups will not start within range of any of their conventional weaponry.
  • All soldiers must be at their most "average".
  • Use the most common canon statistics/explanations, and fill in the holes with scientific evalution.
  • If you meet all these requirements in 1 scenario, feel free to mix and match with another one.
  • No super rare weapons that you seldom see in their respective canons.
  • Lore, fluff, is more accurate then what is shown in gameplay, as things may be changed for gameplay purposes (eg, running 80kph in Halo would be ridiculous)
Considerations:
  • Weapon power
  • Weapon accuracy
  • Weapon range
  • Speed
  • Manuevrability
  • Situational Awareness
  • Reaction Time
  • Training and experience
  • Strength
  • Hardiness
  • Mindset
  • Armor
  • Tactics

Say, would you be able/willing to have each bullet-point in the armor list link to some information about said armor?
For example, linking the Nanosuit 2 entry on the list to the entry in the Crysis wiki, or linking the Elemental entry to the corresponding Sarna article.

Also, for the "Iron Man Mark 3" entry, are you referring to the Mk. III suit from Earth-616 (the "primary universe" version, representing the main comic line) or the Mk. III suit from Earth-199999 (an "alternate universe" version, representing the first live-action Iron Man movie)? :)

Well, I voted Space Marine because those Varia Suits always seem to need to gather all their equipment in the mission.
And since you specifically asked us to geek out on this, I'd like to mention that I'd prefer either:

-Mk 6 Corvus Armor for the higher agility, or
-Mk 8 Errant Armor for the better armor protection.

Mk 7 kinda does nothing for me.

I actually think Elementals would beat Space Marines. All Elemental suits have jump capability, which is a major plus. On top of this, they all have anti-armor missiles and a large quantity of ammo with their other weapons. The standard weapon for a Space Marine is a Bolter, and I just don't think a Bolter is going to cut it for reliably destroying an Elemental suit. If, or maybe when, the Space Marine is able to close in to hand-to-hand combat with an Elemental, though, things start to heavily favor the Space Marine. Space Marines also have an expanded armory and hundreds of years of training, so they are likely able to handle any situation calmly.

A Space Marine would have a little bit of trouble with a Spartan because of the powered shields and the Spartan having increased mobility, whereas an Elemental suits seem practically built to kill them. They carry an anti-personnel weapon, an energy weapon, and missiles. While the anti-personnel weapon would be useless against a Space Marine, it would be able to reliably damage or suppress other power armor suits.

Space marine: They are like clanners... but better and are truly brain washed.

Elementals: Almost as good as space marines but not equally brain washed

Terran: walking tanks but not the same mindless attitude as the two above

On the losing list:

Iron Man Mk3 is a really old suite of Iron Man armor that hardly could do anything and is the basis for the guards at severl versions of super villain prisons. Iron Man took down a army of these once. Alone.

Halo: This is good and all but way way to thinly armoured when we talk about the fire power of my top pick.

Crysis: Bullets can take it down.. regular bullets... The round from a Bolter would paste the guy over a quarter mile.

Metriod: No clue, never seen it in action.

In the end it all comes down the fact that space marines are built like bricks by chemical and cybernetic enhancement combined with complete bran-washing. A suite of armor that makes any conventional arms useless and a basic weapon that fires small rocket propelled munitions, yes that is the basic weapon that do that. Also the space marine have some serious pain killers and life support built in to the armor, So they need to be taken down quickly and completely.

Elementals and Space marines ara allmost even (genetical improved) but the Elemental ist better armed and armored
and way more mobile!

SRM and a Las shoot to da face frag every Space Marine. It would need a Terminator Armor to take this punishment.
And Elementals are just Meduim Power armors. No word of Gnome or Golem Power Armours...

Ironman is totaly of this ranking. The absolutes of Power used in the Marvle Universe are just not compareable to
anything else. Just take a lokk at what forces the Hulk unleashes in Worldwar:Hulk! :)

Also, for the Terran, why are we listing the CMC-300? The CMC-300 is more of an environmental suit, not a battle suit. It's goal is to allow the wearer to fight in many environments, not actually take hits. For a real Terran powered armor suit, you'd be looking at the CMC-660 or the 5-4 Armored Infantry Suit, aka, Firebat or Marauder. In either case, the Terrans start to become competitive.

Ofc, then we could talk about Terminators and the like...

Which Space Marines do you mean??

Devastor Squad ( heavy weapons squad)
Tactical Squad (basic squad)
Assault Squad (close combat squad)
Death Company (psycho squad)
Terminator Squad (walking tanks with miniguns)
Assault Termiator squad (walking tanks with claws or massive hammers)
Grey Knight Squad (specialised anti Daemon hunters)

Actually, not to be picky but how could a elemental be more mobile then a space marine, And the armor is designed to withstand both explosive and laser rounds. Not to mention if the space marine manages to close in on the elemental. Also the space marine have access to Plasma weapons and grenades as standard.

And not to mention if we scale things up the Terminator armor.

I agree the jump jet give the elemental and edge when it comes to closing the gap, but otoh the SM are trained against jump troops.

And the winner is: the Marauder suit from Starship Troopers (the novel).

It's not just the original, it's also overpowered enough to beat the others.

Space Marines, hands down.

Even without the armor, their genetical/biomechanical enhancements go way beyond what is done on elementals (2nd heart anybody? :)) and their standard issue hand weapon is basically a weird combination of a small AC and a SRM launcher that should be able to crack open Elementals with relative ease.

Elementals can have a laser, but it is only a small one and its fire rate just can't compete with a Bolter. Their SRM-2 pack quite a punch, but it's a one shot weapon. The anti personnel weapon is almost useless against Space Marine power Armor I guess. Elementals get the mobility bonus, but do not forget, that jumpjets are more or less also available as "standard gear" for Space Marines (Assault Squads)!

MJOLNIR has a HUGE advantage with its rechargeable! power shield, but I have no idea what kind of energy levels it can absorb related to what the other suits can dish out, but considering it can withstand quite a lot of covenant plasma weaponry fire, I would argue it could easily handle Bolter and Small Laser fire as well.

Considering armor alone, I would say MJOLNIR, Space marine Power Armour, Elementals as top three, but if we include the whole package (respective wearers, available weapons) I would say that Space Marines win, followed by Elementals and Spartans.

I voted the Varia Suit from the Metroid games to be my number 1 pick. This suit however is unique only to Samus Aran as in literally biotechnology fused with her DNA.

Well, I voted Space Marine because those Varia Suits always seem to need to gather all their equipment in the mission.

The "gather all it's equipment in missions" is not entirely acurate to Cannon as has been retconed in the Prime and otehr M Games (it is either a matter of orders to not use all systems or a catastrofic malfunction and teh suit "repairs itself" over time. Also it is able to fuse with andadapt to new technology) So given prolonged fights teh suit only gets stronger.
I will conceed in an ambush and/or compleatly new situation the suit does not proform optimaly, but even in these situations Both teh sui and Samas is damed tough as likely to survive / regroup / come back stronger. Aslo am not sure on teh "super rare" rule as every version of the Varia suit has a Thermal Nuke.

To me the Samas and her Varia Suit combines Weapon power, Weapon accuracy, Weapon range, Speed, Manuevrability, Situational, Awareness, Reaction Time, Training and experience, Strength, Hardiness, Mindset, Armor, Tactics in a well balanced combination.
In a 1v1 fight vs any listed power armour (or a FFA with all listed power Armours) I think it would win.

In a battle scenario with working in a team vs team (or army Vs army) It does not do so well (the Varia suit is unique plus Samas is not really a team player thus her choice to resign from the Military to becom a Bounty hunter).
In an Army Vs Army situation I think the 40k Space Marine Scout Armour, Power Armour, Artaficer Armour, Terminator Armour and Dreadnought Armour shines. What they lack in a 1v1 they make up for in training, singlemindedness and variations in weapon load outs and protection over manuverability ratio, that both complement each other and makes them well suited to any "surprise" or as yet unidenifies enemies, so I voted Space marine 2nd.

In last place I voted the Spartan armour, thought it was a close call between the Terran Armour.

This.
Dropped from orbit, equipped with jumpjets and weapons ranging from flamethrowers to tactical nukes.

Why make a list and then leave out the one that started it all?

had to vote the nanosuit for the fact that so long as you keep from outright dying, it will continually heal the user and repair itself, can protect from a man-portable gauss rifle round, has active cloaking that activates when you want it to, for up to a half out at a time, and you can de cloak when you attack and then recloak, and decloak when hidden safely to recharge.

Second place, MJOLNIR MK VI. why? recharging shields. Sure, it can't take as much damage as some of the other armors, however, the shields give the ability to take hits, hit cover, recharge, and be back to full defensive ability as you widdle down the enemy's armor.

last place, varia suit... why do you have to keep reattaching every part in a mission again?

The TAU Crysis Suit.

Flamer, Missiles, Minigun, Jump Jets.....gotta love those ********.

Edit : Also, Space marines power armor Efficiency ( As well as Elementals ) rely almost entirely on the genetically enhanced pilot...not much of a great power suit if the guy inside is already bullet proof =P

Um, what? Elementals might be particularly well-engineered humans that stretch the definition of "human", but they're still human. Space Marines are not. Space Marines start as the greatest warriors on their home planets, and then get modified and implanted with all kinds of stuff. Space Marines can spit acid that eats through reinforced metal doors, have organ redundancy, that weird thing where they absorb the memories of somebody who they eat, immunity to pathogens and poison, the list just goes on and on.

Elementals are certainly more maneuverable than Space Marines, even than Assault Marines. However, Space Marine armor... you shoot that with anti-building weaponry. Elementals don't exactly last long against something like a Battlemech that can actually hit them, but Space Marines? I wouldn't bet on his chances, but I would hardly be surprised if a Space Marine survived a direct hit from something like a PPC or Gauss Rifle. (They occasionally survive things like Railguns even in gameplay where they're considerably weaker than fluff, and in the RPGs, where they're much closer to fluff... one of my friends caught a Railgun slug. With his face. Didn't even go unconscious.) Terminators certainly could survive, what with the essentially indestructible shoulder pads made of Emperor-bits, and even more so if equipped with a Storm Shield (one of the three standard loadouts).

Lets also not forget that a bolter is not a machine gun. It is a fully automatic rocket-assisted grenade launcher. And that's before you get into the specialized ammunition carried by Sternguard.

While Space Marines are the iconic 40k power armor, Tau battle suits also fall under the domain of "power armor" in a general context, and are much scarier. They're more like mini-gundams. Flying, hovering, extreme agility (to the point of popping out of cover, shooting, and popping back in before you can be hit), same armor characteristics as Space Marine power armor, and guns normally fitted on huge battle tanks fitting pretty easily on them. "Standard armament" is a long range missile launcher and plasma rifle, the latter of which ignores even the armor of Terminators. God help you if you get to the specialized variants that have even more guns, or guns that rip up buildings, or the ones that are invisible. Best thing about Tau battle suits? They don't rely on having super soldiers in them. Outside their battlesuits, your grandma could beat them up. Despite this, they can still punch through walls and stuff.

There are some nice power armor examples on this list, but I think 40k has this one. ...partly because a lot of these were inspired by it. 40k and Battletech are both hella old.

I would like to propose the following Aegis Terminator armor as the second best 40k has to offer, right after the the Nemesis Dreadknight.
