Why and for what good reason is it so difficult to have unique audio dialogue for various weapon types, particularly new tech?
I.e. ATMs, MRMs, lmgs, hmgs, RACs, etc.

Is the recording technology initially utilized for this game no longer in existence?
Or recording tech in general.
Genuinely curious as to why devs didn't think it necessary to update Betty's dialogue to better reflect ones actual load out.

The developer who originally developed the code underlying Betty has left?

I'm pretty sure they stated in the patch notes that betty currently did not have updated dialogue but will soon.

"Soon" as in "within 90 days"? Posted Image

more likely the original voice actor left the company.

no, i dont want tina to do it. it might work on a '70s themed urbie promotional video, but not as a computer voice. and maybu if pgi wouldnt outsource what little talent keeps their game together and would have somone onhand to do it.

If I'm being honest I would not be sad if they brought someone in to do a complete re-recording of the entire Betty voice. The current Betty just speaks too slowly. Like honestly, by the time she's drones out "Warning... incoming... missile..." I've already been bloody hit.

Maybe the voice actress is not available.

That's the joke. She's more of an ambient feature. You know, you're in a brawl and she wont stop bitchin, keeps going, meanwhile you're getting to cover and turn your torso one last time to blast that open shoulder of your opponent. But no shot. After bitchin about some more heatsinks being destroyed and shutdown imminent and some crits in alphabetic order, Betty mentions something about the weapons that were destroyed. You could have looked at the UI and seen it right away, but you were buisy with other things. Don't rely on Betty. Curse her.

That is a problem with jump jet fuel warnings.

a lot of the sound effects play too slowly, like that sat scan warning, by the time you can parse the message in your head, the sweep ends and you get nothing. as if it has to check with the server first. this adds a half a second to the start of the warning which is then read out too slowly to be useful. the more predictable warnings could be scheduled to play sooner like a second before its time. but that doesnt apply to any of the betty warnings except maybe 25% ammo. which i use as a warning to put more ammo in the loadout. actually put enough ammo where you never run out, then figure out how many times you hear the low ammo warning, if you dont hear it at all, start taking ammo off in half ton increments until you do. too much ammo can be a hindrance.

Umm how do you guys not know bitchin betty is the same voice actress that did mw2? It was a pretty big deal they got her for mwo. But imo they did not edit her voice enough to sound like mw2 which is why its so meh.

It would be more likely that she simply wasn't available. VAs aren't on company payroll the same way programmers, designers, and artists are. They get contracted to do the content the company needs from them and then they move on to the next gig. Basically the same way normal actors do work.

I think this is always a bigger issue, lol.

"Left Arm Destroyed" *checks paperdoll* ...My left arm still has yellow armor...

fixed that. not entirely sure pgi has permanent coders. the epic pile of lostech features kind of reveals that. coders who stick around tend to write maintainable code, so when you go 'put in ammo switching' they say 'ok', instead of 'cant do that'. artists seem to be the only permanent fixtures. designers, lol. if this game has dedicated designers, fire them and hire new ones.

That may be true but they have a new voice for clan and innersphere that speaks when objectives are taken and when matches are being lost or won.

You'd think if they can add that they can come out with more betty.

They need to just redo all of Betty, as someone pointed out she speaks slowly.

You'd think PGI, who is coming out with Mechwarrior 5 at some point, would have the funds to hire some to do the code on an updated Betty. They are self publishing a game after all.

If PGI ever decides to redo their betty, I hope they'll try to replicate the MW3 betty. It was just so perfect in every way.

Does that pass the game's PG rating?

That voice is a dude.

Should we replace Betty with a Dude?

"Yo, your ammo is near gone bro'."
"Gah! Your Left arm has been cut off!"
"Oh ****, you took a critical hit!"

Instead of, "Reactor online, sensors online, weapons online, all systems nominal," we can get, "Heat's on, scannin' for baddies, cocked and loaded, let's kill these mother****ers!"

When you die, all enemies get a message in Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice saying, "I'll be back."
