Of course everyone is looking forward to battling other players online. How about PvE (player vs environment)? Should they add a PvE element to the game. How about when you invade an uncontrolled planet the planets garrison is being controlled by the computer? This would allow not only mechs but other vehicles like tanks, and artillery to be able to be represented in the game and still be out of the hands of players. This could lead to very interesting things like missions your lance could do when there are less people online, or this could give people the chance to do some solo stuff.

What are your thoughts?

PGI already stated that at release this will be a pvp game. Whether or not they work in some sort of pve later is up to them and the money they have along with player wishes.

PvP can be fun but I like my PvE single player campaigns, especially when have a connection that keeps dropping! PvE missions alongside other human players would interest me also.

Rather then 1 player vs a number random AI to grind exp, I would like to see some mission based super insanely difficult (player team) vs # insane amount of AI (enemy) campaign missions. (merc companies) Players would bid to take the mission, with reward dependent on success/failure on a string of missions completed. (defending factions could take the option of (hot joining) replacing AI units randomly in battle match.

If anyone has played diablo, where players can choose to play co-op or single to complete a story/ campaign mode, this is what I am talking about.

I wouldn't say EVERYONE wants PvE, but I think it would be nice to have it.

I voted for PvE. That being said, I want it as a lower priority than PvP. I was actually hoping for a primarily PvE game after the pitch/announcement/whatever you want to call it, but that's not what this game is. Since this game is going to be primarily PvP, I want them to get that right before trying to expand on it.

imo if your going to have pve have a set of missions set aside on a contested planet or area and the success or lack there of, of the factions determain the outcome of the next set of events or missions ahead. for example: federated suns and the capellan confederation are battling over a contested area/planet over the coarse of the month the Feds have had a 84.3% rating in kills and mission success, the capellans come out with an 82.5% success, at the end of the month the feds take the planet and have a set of bonus pve missions in that area if the capellans want to retake the planet they have to wait a week or to make another strike at the planet or have a vote within the faction to attack a different planet..to me this brings pve and pvp together in a sense ..............or am i crazy i like input so if you all have anything to add do so.

there has to be a PVE type element to faction and missions for the type of universe announced to work. otherwise ppl will be sitting in waiting rooms typing LFG in a continuously stalled state when theres a lack of players. i am hoping that ppl can bid on a mission. then a timer starts that allows any other opposite faction team to join and if none is found then an NPC instance is formed for the fight.

I actually quite dislike PvP. I know, I know, keep your fruit and vegetables to yourself. In a PvP-centric game, I will give my all, just as with a PvE game, but I am more of a PvE type.

I play both but I prefer team PVP for shooters and team PVE for MMOs. For MWO, I think I would play mostly PVP and only PVE sometimes if they offered it. Seems MWO will be PVP anyway. Im good with that.

Its fine if its not in for launch, but at some point in the future I'd live a really difficult Co-Op mode that makes the team work together against difficult challenges using their individual strengths (fighting, scouting, long range, etc).

If they're gonna have PVE I would like commandable lances as an option. I don't think theyr'e going to make single player campaigns for th game however. While some might want those, I prefer multiplayer with a touch of PvE to add red shirt slaughtering goodness.

They would also be good as tanks, turrets, vtols, etc. or in scripted evetns that happen during games.

PvE is good for "tweakers" to play around with new ideas and configurations. It also aloows for a few minutes mindless blast with no downside consequences. putting it in at a later stage also allows the dev's to tweak AI etc for future stand alone games if they can get the franchise more generally popular again.

When I say I like PvE, and I believe many others would agree with me on this, I'm not just talking about 'mindless blasting fun', I'm also talking about a story, a campaign my friends and I will be able to follow to conclusion. To not eventually add PvE, with the sheer number of individual elements in the BattleTech universe, would be like only writing half-a-book or building half-a-webpage, it's just incomplete. Each of the previous games had their campaigns, and I would be willing to bet -and this is just my personal feeling, nothing to back it up with- that about 65-75% of all people who purchased those previous games never touched the on-line element.

Here's where my belief comes from: Over 11,000,000 copies of the various games were sold; with roughly 700,000 copies per game (MW1, Crescent Hawks Inception, 2, 2: GBL, 2: Mercs, Crescent Hawks Revenge, 3, 3: PM, MC, MCG, MC2, 4: Veng, 4: BK, 4: Mercs, MA, and MA2) {yes, yes, I know, some games outsold others}, plus God-knows-how-many downloads of the free 4: Mercs, and how many ever illegal downloads of MW1 and the Crescent Hawks series. Now, in ANY of your minds, individually or collectively, have you ever seen 15,000 unique call signs, usernames, pilot names, etc., let alone 700,000, in any collective number of leagues or on any collective number of BattleTech/MechWarrior web sites for any of the previous games? In fact, I would be willing to bet that, if you took all of the unique call signs, across all of the leagues that have ever been put together for all of the games that have ever been produced that were available for multiplayer, you would not reach 700,000. 16 Games, 11,000,000 people, and any single game the PvP people have participated in make up 2.14% of the total number of people who've owned that single game.

Heck, with these numbers I have to increase the have-not-played-online folks percentage to 97.86%. Do you know what that tells me? The single-player campaign is 147.86% MORE IMPORTANT than PvP. I would say that's a pretty good reason to get not one, but a universe full of PvE campaigns built.

Can I get a amen! :)

Guys, I'll play PvP, but playing in PvE-based strategic campaigns is far and away more important to me, as well, and I've heard it in multiple forum threads how a good portion of the vocal community here, which maybe makes up 1% of the overall community, the non-vocals being the remainder of that community, wants depth to THIS game, and it's been in this thread, too, that we want more from this game than just Rock-em-Sock-em-Robots. PvP folks, you are the super-minority, but the game is being geared toward your style of play, for now. So, if PvE is in the cards for the future, please don't take that from those of us who actually want it? Thanks.

FURTHER EDIT: As of this writing, there are 33,683 people on these forums and, if every single one of us were a rabid PvP fan, and remaining with the 700,000 copies sold per game, it would still mean only 4.8% of us are PvP fans. The remaining 95.2% of people, the non-vocal community, those who still don't know about the game, those not ready to commit here because of other games, etc., are a mix of PvP and PvE folks, though most of those folks are going to be single-player campaign people, and would be willing to try a multi-player PvE campaign. Think about it.
