I float gently along, watching the T2 bar rise.

Find a build, play with it till I get bored and experiment, stats go down to about 1/1 before I git gud again and start pushing things back up.

Started out bad and didn't fully understand the mechanics of play
Got mediocre garnered and a better basic understanding of play, always bucked the meta.
Became disillusioned over time with my abilities in game.
Became jaded.
Now so salty, salt is no longer considered a resource.

Well then what is it now? A life choice? The new oxygen? The universe as we know it???

There's a serious overabundance of nightsoil in the world too, but I don't go bathing in it ;)

When I first started MWO, I was an absolute potato. I could hardly hit a mech standing in front of me lol. However, once I found a mech that really connected with me, reduced my mouse sensisitivity, and learned basic positioning, I improved drastically. Also, upgrading my mouse to a Logitech G502 really helped. You can really see this difference when comparing my archived, current, and most recent leader board stats.

Id say it probably took me about 6 months to "not totally suck" then another year of dropping with CBR1 to get to a point where i consider my self decent.

I think my biggest challenges were learning to twist effectively, and situational awareness. learning to read the flow of battle took me ages lol

You don't get good by playing against bad players. That just creates bad habits. So the real question is, how long will you keep creating smurf accounts to fight in low tiers because your not going to improve much doing that?

I am a noob I guess, I just have the one account, which means my overall stats incorporate all of my severely noobish beginnings. The seasonal stats do show me (slowly) improving from horrid (and I do remember those times and bad mech/weapon choices etc) to about average in terms of stats and averages in comparison to other players whose conditions vary etc. But meh, I have fun and peel out good damage and kill KMDD rates if I don't get swarmed or die quickly to some well placed fire in a push. Can't expect to be the MVP in every match when it is mostly 12v12 to the death deathmatching. In a good game 20 or more of the players involved will die.

Well, i started in the Closed Beta a few days b4 they opened the Gates to almost anyone (but still called it Closed Beta).
Pretty much the first 25 to 30 games i needed to grab the Basics, the handling, firing weapons in a Weapon Group, doing modifications in the Mechlab, etc.

Around 3 months until i found a role that i really liked and that also was increasing the chances of success for the Team i was in.

Played that til the Clans arrived (to that Point my Stats got mostly better) and other stuff happened (like several nerf cycles you would ROFLOL today about the reasons bcs Clans got it all up their *** twice and thrice as mighty for less space and weight and suddenly it is okay bcs now its the mighty Clans).

Since then i played less, lesser, most less time since the game released and have no more Microphone nor Joystick after i moved 3 times in 1 year so i am declining but at times there are games that let me still shine while my Stats go worse bcs i do stay IS exclusive outside of a few testing runs but my Tier still increases slowly. Imho you need at least half a year to come close to your Maximum skill level and probably you still can get better maximizing your builds and the hardware you play on (staying above 45 FPS in any Situation)..

On the topic of 'getting gud', there's no such thing.

You are always 'bad', and 'less bad'. That applies to all of us. ALL. OF. US. Getting 'gud' implies that you have nothing more to learn - but that is never the case. I remember having my KFXes being <1 KDR about a year and a half back. I resolved to learn it, even if I got blown up match after match. My ERPPC accuracy was <45%.

Now? I've gotten to an ERPPC accuracy of ~75%, and my KFX is sitting on 3.13 KDR / 1.80 WLR. That took me about what, 1.5 million damage dealt across all my KFXes until I could reliably smack Locusts in the face in brawls? And I'm still not satisfied, because those little pieces of crap have just gotten smaller - and that means I need to be even more accurate.

Never give up. Never, EVER give up.
