Thinking About The Forgotten Roughneck

But, the 3A and the Reaver are the most potent with their high energy mounts and/or UAC quirks.
Good, solid 'Mechs.

Really waiting for this IS 65 tonner, (as the Thunder and the Quickie are very old for mwo..... and basically energy boats).
Just curious to see how my theoricrafted builds will work
Meanwhile I bought the hero during the sale, and yes, 2uac10 build is very fun.
If pgi decided to nerf its quirk, I'll go for 4LPL or 4LL, very high mounted.

It's the first time one has been invented purposefully to be sold for real money cash dollars on it's own, all the other game original mechs were just included in full length single player games which you bought and then could access everything on the disc.

Monetization hardly makes the Roughneck special. If that's where folks are taking issue with it, then they should be far more offended by the blatant cash grab for nostalgia-fuel 'Mechs like the unseens which are guaranteed sellers, rather than by a one-off original design that represents more of a gamble. Every 'Mech PGI has added to the game has been paywalled for months after release... expecting that a 'Mech they cooked up themselves would be any different is silly. It wasn't priced any higher, nor was it a case of P2W. In case folks have forgotten, many of the heroes are PGI originals also... and they've always been paywalled too. There's barely ever a peep about that, but the Roughneck is somehow a special kind of atrocity against gamerdom? Please.
Paywalling 'Mechs is not a PGI innovation, either- they got that trick from Microsoft and FASA. While all of the 'Mechs introduced by MW4 were available in the base game for no extra fee, several of the other playable 'Mechs were paywalled and there were a fair few franchise favorites in the pile. Eight of the playable 'Mechs in MW4:Vengeance, continuing into BK and Mercs, were split up into Clan and IS 'Mech packs that were available separately for (IIRC) $15 each... despite all of the included content being present on the disc for the base game on launch day. You only had to buy each pack once to unlock it across all three releases (Vengeance, BK, and Mercs), but the fact remains that MS/FASA did sell unlock codes for content already present in the base game.
The Hunchback, Dragon, Zeus, Highlander, Arctic Wolf, Cauldron-Born (Ebon Jaguar), Masakari (Warhawk), and Kodiak were the paywalled 'Mechs. Without paying for the packs, you could face those 'Mechs in the campaigns or in multiplayer, but not drive them yourself. Several weapons were also paywalled with them- notably the HGauss and MW4-invented Streak MRMs. When Mercenaries came out, the paywalled weapons were unlocked as base game content, and when MekTek's free "MekPaks" gained official recognition the paywalled 'Mechs were finally allowed to be unlocked as well... but when that happened the whole game became freeware anyway, so it was a moot point.
It was, however, a pretty big deal back when the packs first came out, because locking off base game content behind a paywall like that was at the time a new concept (this was one of the first premium content controversies, predating day-one DLC and the like by several years). The Packs also went out of production long before Vengeance, BK, or Mercs, so the supply of unlock discs- which had fairly tough copy protection for the time- eventually dried up and those 'Mechs were flat out unavailable to large numbers of players until the game went freeware.
So, basically, the Roughneck is no worse than any other monetization of new content in MWO, and it is substantially less offensive than the paywalling of nearly 1/3 of the 'Mech roster in MW4: Vengeance despite all of the 'Mechs so treated being present in the base game installation. This is not the hill that this particular compaint department ticket should have picked to die on.

But, it is not really that issue and we have far worse mechs available. Only thing that why few people are interested in this mech is that Roughneck has no nostalgia. It is proven again and again that now very few people actually buy mechs for porformance. People want to play mechs that could be played decades ago, not 'new' ones from infamous companies such as PGI.
It is a good mech, even 1B and 1C can be salvageable. But no one, who actually spends money, gives a damn about good mechs.
....This also indicates that the population pool for this game is seriously unhealthy. This basically tells us that only reason why this game is still going is old folks who just want to play old mechs that were available from previous Mechwarrior games. You have to wonder what would happen when PGI finally ports all of the old mechs from previous Mechwarrior games.... I don't expect good outcome.

Now I think this is more likely due to the fact that PGI decided to increase grind even further by requiring cbills for skill nodes. I basically have no cbills for new mechs for very long time.
Amusingly I don't need any self-control to not buy other mechs to adhere my sig below because I have no cbills to customize them in the first place.
