Through armor crits would fix that. MW2 had that in 1995. Also had an impact fuzed exploding canister round instead of a non-lore shotgun implementation. Again in 1995.
Actually I am starting to think they should/could extend the life of structure points in general further, possibly adding in more info on targets and self when it comes to structure levels, and rather just leave armor as is or even scale it back some.
At first when I started coming up against atlases and the like, versus whom that an open CT means very little to what it used to, the structure toughness is so high there that it is the equivalent of a big fat chunk of more armor to get it to orange or below, I was a bit cranky with how unpredictably tough structure had become, but I think that was a sea-change kind of frustration, knowing it now, just makes fights with heavier IS targets much more interesting/scary. Haing that applied further could really be interesting, and add that feeling of more effect for critseeking weapons, which seem very strong but get very little real opportunities in game or have to work very hard to open their own opportunities to utilise the mechanic.
