Lrms are an awesome suppression and harassment weapon.

Poop when boated.

Super poop when the lrmboat doesn't do anything but sit in a trench and lob sand at doritos.

If you put lrm in missile slot instead of srm.....u are doing something really wrong.

edit: ops, I've just re-read..... LRM AWESOME WEAPON........ my brain hurts....

honestly with the AMS buff and AMS nodes and the infinite LAMS, LRMs are pretty much dead in the water anymore. I have two dedicated LRM boats that before this I was pretty darn good with and no I am not one of those "get locks for me please" LRM users. I stay with the mass, I carry narc to narc my own targets and such. I can't get good results with either of them anymore. My LRM20 (4xLRM5) golden boy, loses almost all its missiles anymore against a single AMS and generate stupid heat now... and my LRM50 mad dog loses probably half or more against one AMS it seems now. The range on AMS is so great now that you can be firing at a lone target but you see AMS taking missiles down from what seems like a mile away.

and LAMS might as well be an infinite AMS, I run it on a few mechs and I never see it build heat even if it is just firing away forever. the heat generation of LAMS needs to be raised OR it needs to be a slower system or something. It works just as well as AMS without the need for ammo.

they only work well now when you find that one mech that is by itself and isn't carrying AMS. If your team is close together and half of them have ams and the other don't, missiles aren't getting through. Other than the fact that any decent player just avoids the missiles as they come in after the first salvo.

but all other weapons are semi useless in a way when we have laser vomit 60 point alphas that don't instantly overheat and pop mechs.

To say lrms are a skill-less weapon is simply wrong. It doesn't need much skill but a pilot still needs to know how to use them properly.

Of course LRMs are high skill weapon. How many MWO top teams have won championships using LRMs? None. Absolutely Godlike skill is required to reach LRM's skill ceiling. Posted Image

juju did 750 damage and killed one guy while playing with his FOOT.

if that doesn't tell you that lrms are a skill-less weapon, i don't know what will.

People keep talking about how LRMs are dead. I played a LRM boat for the Mad Cat II event and did extremely well with it, even in light of thr current massive AMS and I also had never LRMd before. I stayed close to the front lines, just behind the brawlers and supported them by hitting targets they were brawling with instead of staying back at max range and hoping my targets wouldn't find cover. LRMs aren't dead; bad players kill them, but the same can be said for scouts/snipers/brawlers/whatever.

It does however require different skill.
Instead of putting accurate fire on mostly low mobility targets like you do with lasers acs and ppc you need to have map awareness knowing how much enemy will stay locked, whether he can get into cover soon, knowing where are ams clusters and so on.

or you can blindly lob 1800lrms and do 800 dmg with no kills...

oh and btw, youre arent doing midair hits with slow moving exlosive projectiles, twitch shooting, recoil compensation, adjusting for bullet drop to headshot target at extreme range.
Maybe if our crosshair was shaking during movement or at least the fire wasnt pinpoint accurate on movement so you can actually promote good positioning, but no, none of that.

None of the mwo weapons are particulary skillful, so get off your high horse...

By any means, the lowest skill ceiling sets the Laser Weapon - to use LURMS you need a pretty deep udnerstanding of the game, knowledge of the Maps, positioning, face so many counters that it has become indeed a weapon with the highest skill requirements!

I agree that you have to redefine skill for not only being pure Muscle Memory and Reflexes...but if you do the "World of Skills" opens up to you!

Rofl, great video. Pretty much settles the lurm "skill" debate.

I play LRM boats when I do play MWO drunk. Even made a threat about it...

And from that experience, I gotta tell you, either you're overestimating the mental capabilities needed to pilot LRM boats or I'm considerably more mentally capable when drunk than I ever gave myself credit for.
