Depends if you mean the PGI definition of toxic, which is 'pointing out that Russ might be wrong about something'.

PGI's attitude to (lack of) customer communication is one of the root causes of the toxicity.

When people feel their concerns are being ignored - or not even heard - it heightens their frustration, and propensity to vent.

Not very Toxic at all from my experience, there IS a small very toxic group of people who play this game, even a couple of toxic clans, but they are so small they may as well just be ignored, most people I have met on this game have been very good people and I am even going to visit one of my Euro brothers as we get along so well, on the whole the MWO community is great, they just whine a lot hahaha.

I think this community is kinda different compared to other FPS communities, as most of the anger is not directed against other players but against the developer itself.

You must not have played that many online multiplayer games if you think this game's community is toxic

Unfortunately it's part in parcel(correct phrase?) to being on the internet. I have all chat turned off because I really only communicate with my friends anyway. Just grow some thick skin and be the best person you can be. And remember, name calling from a random stranger doesn't actually hurt. It just shows their limitations as a person.

hhhmmm so far besides a few individuals who seem to think thier life depends on this game almost every gamer i met on this so far has been fun and great.

besides the red players... well some of the red players (im looking at you un scratched cent who cant wait for a 1v1 on a mostly dead locust who is eating the last assult mech alive.) long sotry short that game came down to me vs a cent player who came back from being afk and a atlas player who was legged and in the open. they won.

Compared to "average online community" ? Not very toxic.

Compared to "average online FPS community" ? A haven of polite, respectful discussion.

Fact.

Less Fact.

Most FPS devs have alternate titles in which the player / consumer / whatever can go to find what they're actually looking for. The **** we give PGI is mostly well constructed and rightful process. The things I've seen thrown at EVERY FPS developer that I've ever dealt with for any length is eye shattering.

The Overwatch community for one is tame as ****. Compared to them we are sweet angels, and compared to some of the old school stuff from way back... I've seen less hate in war photos. The worst the MWO community has is a sense of entitlement and an idealistic look on some subjects because the mechs are older than I am. We've been around for ever, but all we got is MWO right now.

That's not helping matters. FPS / TBS / TT / etc: all dumped into one bucket AND we're THIS civil with eachother. I haven't even been banned here for correcting anyone yet.

You know your community's toxic when you prove a mod / admin incorrect (about the game) and are banned post argument and your posts wiped from the forum. THAT's Toxic. Been there done that. You guys are ******* amazing.

Which lets lay that out right now so you're not all in the Dark.

Banned from 2 Dark Souls Discords, 6 Banns on Armored Core forums, 1 Ban from a battlefield forum... Granted only one of those is a shooter... you guys treat me like a family member and you treat irritating posters like people.

Serious question...is this your first online game ever? It is very tame in comparison to what's out there.

No... 'fraid not.

Been playing video games since SIMNET in the 1980's (before there were video games) and the AAR's were toxic at times.....so, yes, a very long time.... (about 1100 hours in SIMNET; since I was stationed at the Armor Center.... It caused several divorces.....)

To date, Eve and WoT's imploded and are as toxic as MWO.... Loooong gone from them.

MWO is a more personal form of Toxic in my experience....some players really "believe" they are "that good" and are simply rude. I wonder if it is their first video game?

I'm just about done and have disabled the mic and sound most of the time and I'm limiting being on the forum. Sadly, toxic behavior, its contaminated the game itself... Match after match of apathy, discontent and angst that usually boils into frustration and hate....

most of the toxicity is vectored pgis way so i dont see an issue. the only thing pgi can do is make a better game and make those toxic players eat their own salt. but thats never going to happen.

I get incredibly toxic at times. Sometimes I feel the need to apologize after some matches. Like to some Huginn who I told to choke on fluids a while ago, because he was being annoying.

I mean, I've gotten to the point of threatening team mates with teamkilling if they don't move up. Not that I ever would, but taking the Commissar approach has apparently persuaded an otherwise untouched and purposeless Dire Wolf to stop cowering and help out the angry armor-stripped Huntsman pilot threatening to attempt to kill the Dire if he doesn't step in the circle.

I just need to get a reign on my salty, brash, and frankly unacceptable chat behavior.

All in all we're a very mature and laid back community. The fact remains that this is an online shooter and that does something to people with a competitive mindset. I will honestly say that I too sometimes make remarks when a team or players messes up in spectacular ways. I try to limit this, I try to even in my complaints stay restrained, and I never call people names. I have the impression that goes for most mechwarriors. There will always be exceptions. Rest assured though, that, ingame, this community is very polite and nearly non-toxic.

Now the forums,... that is a slightly different story Posted Image ... salt is toxic in high concentrations, right? Posted Image

I play CS, overwatch and DOTA. We are not even 0.000001% as toxic as those communities. For one, there's hardly anyone below 18 here, whereas there's thousands of 12 year olds who claim to know my mother carnally in those 3.
