The only mech that outdid my Annihilator is the MLX sporting a bunch of MGs.

Mgs are irrelevant to how much damage he did with his airstrikes.
It's absurd how badly strikes corrupt damage discussions here.

Or how much was inflated from ripping off side torsos (which gives you all the arm health as "damage").

Agreed and I think it's more likely the bonus arm damage rather than strike damage, assuming this game is from the most recent patch.

I think mg crit damage is fine. Viable mgs have added a little depth to the game, don't ruin it... Add a few points of back armor if you feel the need.

Considering he spent most of his time harassing me under the central platform while I was under there (and chased him out as he levelled mechs left and right) and no one got air-striked or artillery-striked, that doesn't seem to be the case.

A lot of people ended up losing arms and legs, though. Like a lot. The pest got my side torso and arm separately. And a decent amount of my armor too and as you can see, I have a boatload of armor.

Not a single strike fell (prior to going under to try and hunt the pests as four allies dropped dead in there in very short order, I spent most of my time at medium long range in the open so that I could actually use my RACs against heavies and assaults, thusly for much of the match I had a pretty good view) and since most of my allies spent their time under the central platform, really hard to see how one or two strikes could even have a chance to do that much damage. What we had was a tiny pest that would sneak up behind people that were too busy doing something else and then cut them to shreds and skitter away whenever someone reacted. I'd find him wittling away at an ally or getting up behind me while I'm RAC'ing an enemy. What eventually got him was my RACs being arm-mounted and when his leg finally busted I hit him with the heavy MGs.

He'd vulture in whenever he could, and that's how you're supposed to play it.

That tells me the level of players you were with, so he was probably just spud farming.

"Tier 4", so yeah. My point is lets troll the forums with how the only thing that beats 3 ER ML, 2 RAC/5s and 3 Heavy MGs is a MLX with 6 LMGs.

(Though with the range he kept getting into, I think they were heavy MGs... because seriously they tore through **** like it wasn't even funny).

IMHO it's not the MGs that are the problem;

it's more a certain mech carrying 8 of them. that thing went from being a joke / hard mode to being one of the best (if not THE best) lights - all thx to 8 MG-slots.
try your 2-3 MGs on a battlemaster, timberwolf or whatever... they're doing (next to) nothing there, still.

IMO reducing the omnipods to 3 ballistics would make the lynx still _very_ okay; right now it feels OP.

Never could get a good target lock on him because he'd jump over or under my view whenever I got a bead on him and he'd drop instantly from sensors whenever he did so. Can't recall now if he had ECM.

The MLX is still not close to the best (the ACH, JVN, FS9, and WLF). It's better than it used to be, but those arms are still WAAAY too fragile and the 2 ERSL is has in the torso are just not sufficient for a light to rely on (unlike the 3 HML the ACH can use).

Sigh... PGI releases new mgs and the light ones are actually worth taking even with inherent face time risk built in (HMG awful, mg's meh still collecting dust)... and then come the tears.. we must nerf fun new weapon until its terribad and irrevelant... gg close.

the lynx is tiny, though.
I'll freely admit that I'm a bad light pilot, so my opinion on it may not be on the spot.
what I'm sure of, and that was the point of this thread, is that machine guns by themselves are really not the problem ppl make it up to be; it more about boating them.

I kind of feel that people should be required to play a non-laser-vomit Kitfox before they're allowed to request nerfs to machine guns.

The Lynx is tiny, but with the 4 MGs per arm it's also incredibly wide. In essence, if you aim at a Crit Lynx, you've got a 75% chance of hitting the arms over anything else.

Guess how long it takes to get through his armor for a majority of mechs (including other Mist Lynxes) and often at longer ranges than ones he is even a threat at?

Less than a second if you can actually hit the little blighter. Problem is hitting him. It's not an Assault 'mech that you only miss if you're completely incompetent, the thing is small enough to barely even come up to the hips on some 'mechs and can definitely outmaneuver larger 'mechs enough to stay out of their firing arc long enough to kill them all by itself.

Sounds more like a positioning problem on the larger mechs, or a piloting issue, because the Mist Lynx is far from the most mobile of lights (in fact the Commando and Locust put it to shame) and really shouldn't be hard to counter turn against unless you are already hurt at which point his job is to vulture you, that's about all lights are good for outside causing people to squirrel.

Maybe try using PPFLD? A pair of Gauss have no trouble ripping off arms on both the Cheetah or Lynx. Either way, the Lynx is far from the strongest light so why are people still bringing it up?

Keep in mind with reduced agility, how painful it is for most lights. All it takes is one good shot to ruin their day and even good light pilots can get caught flat-footed (these flat-footed windows are much larger than before). They are like assaults, they aren't kind to mistakes, the difference is assaults are rewarded for good play by being able to out damage almost all mechs at range.

>Appreciable buff to IS MGs so they compete with double tonnage. Amazing idea, but one so easily overlooked by our balance overlords.
>Buff to heavy MGs for both factions, but a larger buff to the IS heavy MG, seeing as how they're 1 ton each (fckn terrible)
>Clan light MGs should be the ones nerfed further.
>Standard cMG is fine, just increase their cone of fire a bit.

Yes, and requires constant face staring at a shorter range to do just that on a mech that has arms that just pop off; I'm not seeing the problem.

You wouldn't see the problem cause you can shoot straight and know where to aim. The biggest complainers have no situational awareness and cant aim.

Yep and the fact said user has openly admitted to tanking to stay in T4... So it's basically nooblet farming.

Nothing impressive.

ANYWAY... All PGI needed to do was swap the HMG / LMG crit multi...

Agreed, make them worthless again. That's what we need, worthless weapons.
