PGI never ceases to amaze me when surprising everyone with bad balance decisions.
It is actually the only assured thing that PGI gifts to everyone.
Why some people hadn't noticed it before (and probably still don't) will always stay a mystery.
There will always be more of these to come... my friends and enemies. It will continue to be an ongoing era of Dartboard Dominance.
Here's the problem -
The concept is good. Ballistics buff (velocity even!) And a nerf to lasers. These two could really stand a better balance of value as they often compete in the same ranges. Better velocity helps ballistics trade effectively and get more use of their DPS.
However matches don't take place in an open field. DPS is less valuable than big alpha when exposure is in 3 second increments and when the ballistic mech pushes it's already so chewed it can't use its narrow DPS advantage.
DPS matters 7 out of 10 times only over maybe 3 or 4 seconds. A 3xUAC2, 4ML MAD will consistently lose out against a Gauss, 2ll, 5erml BH2 in a team environment. In a 1 v 1 duel they're pretty close but in group or pug queue the DPS build is so badly burned in the approach he doesn't survive long enough to leverage DPS.
As such these laser nerfs just serve to make smaller lasers (and smaller mechs with a lot of E hardpoints) worse when they were not the issue.
Meh. Just poorly executed.
