So finished my walk. Looks like its Large Lasers and Snub PPC Till November. Or change my play style totally and stop using Lights and Mediums, that are my bed and butter. \o/ arms are up in the air for this one.

Everyone should just altogether STOP spending money in MWO. 100% Boycott! Maybe then, when its time to pay bills and NO INCOME IS COMING IN, will they get their crap together and make correct decisions!

Until then . . .

Can we just... Keep the test server on all the time or something, seriously? We need actual freaking tests in a vacuum, not whatever the hell PGI does with the BS stats they get.

Trying to work out who is worse off with this balance. Clans or IS. Seem that both side took a big hit.

Grasshopper took a big hit
Nova and any laser build omni mechs took a hit.

Every SRM build took a hit

All I can think off is that it is trying to promote mixed builds, ie enforcer or atlas

It will be interesting to see how faction play scouting goes. Its the only arena where in my opinion IS dominates. (took me 14 matches to get the 12 150 game score and as a PUG line up as a bushwacker. won 12/14. With my clan account playing nova-prine/HMN-P/MLX-g took nearly 25 games to rack up the 12, got stomped quite a few times on the first day.

Either play the game as is, or move on, it's literally that simple.

Wonder how long the game would last if everyone pissed off at P.G.I took your advice

Do we know if these changes are planned to be part of a wider spread of nerfs/buffs overall, or whether they're standalone tweaks?

Reducing damage and reducing cooldown/heat on lasers so they did less damage per trade while requiring them to shoot more often would have helped equalize them with ballistics a bit better.

Increasing cooldown while leaving 80+ alphas doesn't change the core issue.

especially since clans still have way better heat efficiency than IS

what they needed to fix was the massive disparity between CDHS and ISDHS

standalone. the only thing PGI plans ahead of time is mechpacks

I love how PGI uses the phrase "We feel..." for the Artemis and laser changes. Why do you have to "feel" anything? Don't you have access to data that we don't have?

Balance changes should be based on facts, not feelings.

I'm getting a real "fly by the seat of my pants" vibe from PGI right now.

PGI needs to call few of the top players in the game and make a meeting about balance. Because literally these guys can do nothing right. Cd on lasers? Lasers had too good dps? I'm shocked how little they know about their game. Ballistics are dps weapons, not lasers. Because it is the heat that determines the mechs dps. YOu can boat as many ballistics as you want: by the time you reach heatcap, whatever is in front of you is long cinders. Laser boats can do 3-4 alphas and they are cooked. And unlike ballistics they have to wait for damage to be dealt. People use lasers because = They reach higher alphas then ballistics. That is it. Lasers are most commonly used because they are the most versatile weapons. Because they have the most variety. You can look for one at range, you can look for one at tonnage or you can look for duration whatever stat you prioritize you have an option. And you can utilize them on every single mech category unlike ballistics, which boating requires heavy+.

Didn't PGI try a player council a few years ago?

If I remember correctly, it was an utter failure.

It only works if you pick the right people. Of course, if you pick enough potatoes, you'll get enough "half baked" ideas.

Please don't give them any funny ideas. You know that they'll be more than happy to oblige.

If they wanted to nerf laser meta, they should have obliged, instead of what we got. I'd have been happy!

People need to step off the ledge a bit. It's not that terrible.

The intent was clearly dial lasers back a bit and buff ballistics a bit.

That's a good thing as it's a reasonable step in balancing where we are at. The velocity buff was still a bit too light but a good thing without question, much needed and the right thing.

The laser nerf was just the wrong rhinf. Ironically I think it was more a matter of trying to be conservative and make it minimally impactful while just looking at weapon stats and not how those weapons play out on (especially IS) mechs.

The concept was good. The direction was good. Half the execution was off. The real issue is it was announced alongside nerfs to already sub par IS mechs, feeling like a double whammy.

The PTS is one of their internal testing servers, so I don't think they want us to have it all the time or they lose out.

I find these laser changes particularly heinous. Above the status quo in facepalm-worthiness.

Not the worst balance change yet, by far.

Making medium-class lasers reload slower than large-class lasers is not a good concept or direction.

What's next, are we going to have the AC/5 reloading slower than the AC/10?

Artemis nerf makes no sense. Were LRMs, SRMs, or ATMs OP? If not, why are we looking at them? They barely nerfed lasers with a lame CD increase, which just makes them easier to heat manage, but all missiles get a blanket nerf because...?
