So, Why Do Atms Stream-Fire Anyway?

Originally, Clan LRMs got fired in streams as part of the balancing of them vs. IS LRMs. It spread damage more, and increased their AMS vulnerability by giving AMS more time to engage the salvo.
ATM launchers also streamfire, but the small number of missiles per salvo already make them terrifically weak to AMS fire- to the point where any significant AMS presence will neuter the launcher. Why don't they simply fire in a single cluster instead? The smaller number of missiles/higher velocity already makes any spread difference from streaming almost moot.
It'd be a way to help ATMs that doesn't require changing it's actual stats.

Because in the right range bracket they do 3 damage per. So an ATM 9 does 27 damage. It takes an SRM12 to do close to the same damage and SRMs are dumbfire.
There is a reason everybody is carrying AMS now.

You dont even need AMS to counter ATMs. They do large numbers of damage on paper, but :
-Its spread damage, except that the spread doesnt improve as you get closer
-1 second lockon times and inability to torso twist because you need to maintain locks = enjoy facetanking damage
-The velocity is so slow that mechs can peek, shoot, and reverse before the ATMs get there.
-Fast mechs can close the distance from short to min range before you can get a second shot off
-You literally cannot do anything if a warhammer/grasshopper/any mech with shield arms uses the arms to tank while running towards you
They probably fire in streams to maintain some kind of consistency with C-LRMs. That and the weapons.xml entry for ATMs is pretty much the same as the LRMs with some bits modified. I dont mind them being stream fired, but all their disadvantages makes them useless against any decent player, even if they dont have AMS.

Stream fire also look cooler, that is important too.
What would be even more cooler is Macross-esque firing pattern when all missiles fly slightly sideways and then start homing to the target.

Can't find an old video to verify but if I remember well, way back in closed beta, LRMs fired mostly like that macross vid.
Here:
With old thermal vision as a bonus.

They had a spin, yes
As it SRMs, which could hit a single hitbox at 2 or 3 points along the path (in-out-in sort of thing)
