What if we buffed it a lot? 14 slots is quite a bit for the benefit. LFF could be buffed too.

agreed,
i had an idea on just this once,
(Ferro Extra Armor Concept! Balancing Ferro!)

allow Ferro to increase the Max Armor your Mech Can Carry,

Preach, my dude, preach.

I do find it funny that LFF is way more useful than FF simply due to the lower slot requirement.

it makes more sense to buff standard structure

because if you buff standard structure, ferro fibrous suddenly becomes useful simply because you cant use endo

PGI just copied and pasted the TT stats without caring about balance. Countless ideas about balancing FF have been proposed in the past, but they just dont care.

Give IS Endo and Ferro 2x more weight savings compared to Clan version. They cost twice as much slots so the saving should be twice as much. Very simple to do, and will allow IS to actually mount good enough firepower.

idk what would make me go for ferro over endo.

There is a suggestion that Ferro could give certain % bonus armor on top of its original weight savings. For example, +8% for Clan ferro, and +14% for IS ferro. Maybe then people might consider picking it over Endo in some situations.

3 tons vs 17 armor on 100 tonner. Id take 3 tons.

because if you take standard structure you can then ONLY use ferro for weight savings.

so by making standard structure compete with endo, you make ferro useful by extension

giving standard structure a +30% structure bonus would make stdstr/ferro about equal to endo/stdarm

youd go with stdstr/ferro if you want survivability. youd go with endo/stdarm if you want more speed or firepower.

again thats only 19 structure on 100 tonner vs 3 tons endo would provide me, worth even less than 17 armor from post above.

The % bonus armor value can be easily changed via balancing.

Sure, remember however that you have tons of mechs, if at some point youll have ferro being so powerful youll kill energy builds which will need to drop dhs and instead youll just run ballistic boats which in turn ruins balance further.

no its not. you fail at math class.

a 100 tonner has 313 total structure points

313 x 0.3 = 93.9 structure points

its 93.9 more structure points not 19

the structure bonus is applied to the ENTIRE mech not just one location.

endo steel gives +5 tons on a 100 ton mech

+93.9 structure points = +3 tons
ferro on a 100 ton mech = ~+2 tons

so you save about the same as endo.

again youd take stdstr/ferro for survivability and endo/stdarm for speed/firepower. thered be a reason to use both depending on the mech.

You don't make any sense. Ballistics too require a lot of slots due to their bulk and ammo consumption. They also require a lot more tonnage, which means ballistics mechs will have to use Endo instead of Ferro. Besides, ballistics are worse than lasers right now, so giving ballistics help is actually beneficial to balance.
