I'd say mix it all together but I can see both arguments. A coordinated group of 4 can really control a match. At the same time its impossible for me to teach friends how to play because they get dropped into the deep end right away.

Also on the note of groups with pugs, most groups i've played with solo have communicated with us and helped get the team going over comms regardless of who they dropped with so i don't understand why it would be considered a problem for 2-4 man teams to drop normally.
Let us play this wonderful game unhindered!

There are other places to drop with your friends outside of messing up solo QP. Both FP and Scouting are good for small groups with Scouting being custom made for four mans.

The previous setup there were no in-game VOIP nor could anyone identify who was grouped up or not AND the MM used Elo (used group Elo average) instead of the current PSR so the dynamics were also different.
But the biggest outliers were that those who were grouped up were using TS/external VOIP while the normal pugs had to communicate via in-game chat (chuckles) and there was no command wheel to even assist. And PGI did not restrict it to one group per side.
Now we do have in-game VOIP, MM uses PSR instead of Elo. Tier 4-5 would still be Tier 4-5, Tier 1s would still be Tier 1. Allow duos to opt in the queue but without opt out of the group queue. Do not average the PSR. If a T2 and T5 drop together they do so as a T2. And allow only ONE duo per side. To prevent a duo from committing suicide early in a group game cause they did not drop in the other queue, that duo would not be able to start another game with different mechs until the current group game has ended.
As for teaching friends, Private Lobby no longer charge a fee so what better way to teach friends without being under pressure. What PGI should add to the lobbies would be add the Testing Ground maps with the dummy mechs.

You can always go to FP if you want to play in small group.

It really is a ridiculously huge advantage. Had a match yesterday where the entire team basically gave the match up. 10 people (Including me) just threw the whole thing away. And then someone from EmP and a Summoner rolled the entire enemy team. 11 of the 12 kills, 51% of the damage done by the team, all in two people.
And that was just a random convergence. If people could group up and do that every match, it's easy to see it ruining QP. The only benefit to the average player would be build diversity, because if the entire match is going to be determined by who gets the better team, you may as well run something goofy. It's not like it matter whats you do.
At the same time, I'm sympathetic to dual or even triple players who can't play together because GP is full of mega groups (I actually participated in a mega group for the first time a couple days ago, and while fun, its kind of sad too. You can only squeeze so much fun out of crushing 6 pairs of people with 12 coordinated sledgehammers).
I dunno. Something needs to be done, but I'm not sure what. maybe 8v8 will help QP? 2 person groups may not get hurt so bad if they only have to face 8 man premades instead of 12 man ones.

That would be a great suggestion if Steiner wasn't dead and we didn't have to wait a week to swap.

Still not a reason to make qp worse than it already is.
And why do u need to leave Steiner anyway? There is no separate faction buckets now, its IS with Clans and you can play together as long as all of you either IS or clan.

Yep - so it should only happen if there's another 2 man available to put in the enemy team.
I'm all for it - as long as those wanting to do it get a choice to opt in, and accept the inevitable extended MM wait times as a result.
I think it would do good things for the game. Sometimes you want to play with a buddy - then sometimes you go against 228 or some other well oiled murder machine. Consecutively. Brutally.
I daresay there would be quite a few willing to drop in 2 mans. Heck, I see streamers trying to sync drop all the time. Might as well try and fit it into the MM and balance the scales properly.

Your intentions may be honest and forthcoming but for the dozens of "others" who would just squeal in glee at the prospect of duo farming runs...... Sync drops are bad enough when you see the same 2, 3 or 4 players from the same COMP teams dropping in QP and massacring everyone else: sometimes 2 or 3 games in a row.... No thanks....there isn't anywhere to play for average players anymore....

Let's face it, for those who have not played this game before (and especially for those who have never played any form of Mechwarrior before), this game has a significant learning curve. New players need the ability to play with a friend. And being able to pair up with a vet player without running into a 10-man of EMP over and over again would VASTLY improve retention of newer players.

That puts your team at a massive disadvantage
Unless you force a 2 man in the Solo queue to split 80 tons, it just won't work. Far too much of an advantage in Potato Land
