First, props to Gas Guzzler and Myke Panterra for their polls. I am not making one to drain attention, but because I think a different poll is needed. Their polls can reflect the popularity of mechs which PGI can use as a guide for sales. This is very valuable. However, while PGI needs to pick mechs that will sell, we the players need certain weight brackets to get filled out.

I am looking to make a poll that is more constrained by needs inside of each weight class. I will target weights that are under populated within their class and give preferential treatment to weights that have not just been expanded. If a given weight class only has 1 mech, it will be included. I will also constrain by speed as this has been a system limitation mentioned by in the past (sorry, no firemoth or other lights that break 170kph Posted Image).

Vote Here:
https://mwomercs.com...ased-mech-poll/
For Lights:
IS most needs a 20t or 25t mech
Clan most needs a 20t or 25t mech

For Mediums:
IS most needs a 40t mech
Clan most needs 45t mech

For Heavies:
IS most needs a 60t mech
Clan most needs 60t mech

For Assaults:
IS most needs a 85t mech
Clan most needs 80t or 95t mech

For reference, mechs here:
http://www.sarna.net...ory:BattleMechs
and Myke's list here:

On the IS 85 ton poll, the Crockett and Katana are basically the same 'mech, for all intents and purposes. Probably don't need both/could merge them into one.

Glad you shared those.

Technically there are only 2 95t mechs for the IS in the Banshee & Nightstar
1. Albatross, 400 capable Atlas-lite, lacks variants
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Albatross
2. Cerberus, 400 capable humanoid Nightstar 9P but some are more energy based
http://www.sarna.net...rus_(BattleMech)
3. Colossus, energy with a touch of ballistic, Nightstar speed, Solaris mech
http://www.sarna.net...sus_(BattleMech)
4. Hauptmann, omni, locked std285, no endo nor FF, Ecm, good hardpoints with space and tonnage to use them
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Hauptmann
5. Naginta, Missiles with some energy, ecm & jj variants, NSR speed
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Naginata
6. Sagittaire, mostly energy boats with one ballistic & energy variant, JJ, NSR speed
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Sagittaire

The Sagittaire would likly be the strongest in game if not hobbled by a low cockpit. It'll depend on Alex.

Please:

Add the option "no opinion". I don't think it is fair if I cast a vote on a Mech I don't for at all. I could not care less what Clan 60t Mech is next, so my vote should not influence it.

Also, the Sling is an IS Mech. Yes, it was build and used by the Clans but Techbase is IS and that is all that matters in MWO (see Annihilator e.g.)

All these additional side polls are muddying up the results.

Not really, some of the more focused polls (Lights only, IS Omnis) are more useful for their target audience.

Only the IS Medium section of your poll has shown any real movement in, what, 5 months?

No real reason to leave out the Fire Moth when a simple negative speed quirk keeps it below the limit.

I understand the concern Gas Guzzler, but the problem with a broad poll is that it does not constrain for what types of mechs we need. I really want the Crusader and the Anubis in game, but IS does not need another 65t or 30t mech at the moment.

We only have 1 20t and 1 25t light for each side, but the IS has 5 35t and the clans have 3 35t mechs, together they have double the number of 35t in game than we have total options in the 20t and 25t classes. I get that people like the extra firepower, and your poll shows PGI what looks popular overall.

Or look at the Clan 60t bracket, there is only 1 mech: the Maddog. But in your poll, the Rifleman IIC and the Grizzly take up the top 50% of votes. Heck, I voted for the Grizzly, I think it would be a good mech. However, clans already have 3 65t and 2 70t options to the 1 one in the 60t class.

I am trying to give them a secondary tool that tells them which of the underrepresented mechs they should bring in, if they choose to focus on filling out those categories.

Yes, there are only 2, but they just got a new 95t mech. So that makes 85t the bracket that is smallest and has not seen expansion in the longest time. Likewise there are only 2 Clan 40t and 55t options, but both of those categories were recently expanded. the 45t bracket is the smallest and most stale.

Eh.. lights only should be fine, there is a light category on the poll. For omnis, you can just take the most popular omni in the list.

I think its a little unnecessary, but w/e.

I get that, but you can also just take whatever the most popular 25 tonner is (for example) out of the overall poll.

Same for the 60 ton bracket. I think the Thresher would be a good addition personally, but if its not that popular, people aren't going to buy it JUST because it fills in that unused tonnage spot.

But like I said, its w/e.

But yeah, Clans definitely need another 95 tonner. Release the Turkina!

Happy to see the Champion in the IS 60ton slot, good mech that wouldn't suffer from what most IS 60 ton mech suffer from, which is being humanoid shape, tight cluster of weapons around the cockpit and arms being able to soak shots for days. It is a 60 ton cicada. Or another way to put it, it is everything people wanted the dragon to be but it isn't. Plus really we only have 1 non humanoid (and that is barely) 60 ton IS mech in the rifleman, even then, it is pretty humanoid in the end.

It is a question of use. The Sling was in use with the Clans before most of the tech upgrades. But it was used by the clans for Clan conquests, and the crappy little lrmers are probably sitting in old clan scrapyards.

The Annihilator was mostly used by the Wolf's Dragoons in the Inner Sphere and was later sold to the IS market. The Dragoons used (or so they thought) IS tech.

If PGI wanted to introduce the Sling (which I hope never happens), it should go in as a Clan mech with tech retrofits.

@Midnight Grimoire, I have been thinking about it and you have convinced me to change my IS 60t vote over to the Champion. It is a really good design for volumetric sizing and has some great hardpoint locations.
