Many players saw a tie as the most likely outcome (despite PGI's words)....purely, based on what happened with Luthien and the fact that PGI went the opposite way, in that they made a tie easier to achieve this time. A sky-high capture threshold (for an event) and wins/losses causing more than triple the bar movement than they did for Luthien made this nearly inevitable.
I get that PGI doesn't want a tuk-style event where there is potentially little participation at the end, due to one side being so far ahead that it can't be overcome. However, this system makes early participation not very meaningful and risks less partication at the early stages of the event. Plus it just makes the whole thing a joke as the last couple of hours just determine things, no matter what has happened before.
Options (that I can see) for change:
1. Go back to tuk-style events. 51% capture bar (or 60% if you want a small window for ties) or just total wins.
2. Make it an daily event with daily challenges. A 5 day event that requires 3 out of 5 days won. Make the daily rewards for participating in day 4 and 5 good...so that even if the event is won/lost that players have motivation to play it. Spin it however PGI wants, losing units covering evacuation of the royal family, etc....winning units racing to the capital. But if you make the individual rewards good enough, people will keep playing those days. This mitigates flipping effects as well. Where if a unit flips sides on day 4 or 5 it doesn't cost the side that was dominating the event. If they won the first 3 days with that unit, well they have it in the bag
