Since when is a 15% ballistic Cooldown on a mech with 3 ballistic points not very good?, esp when you add some awesome armor bonuses.

I mean, I just run a simple AC/20 + 3 ML + RL20 with a big std engine on it, just ignoring the arm mounts for the most part.

The Roughneck 2A is solid. AC/10 in one shoulder, MRM30 in the other, 3 ML centerline, and a light or standard engine. For everything else, however, there is the Thunderbolt.

Plus... the Thunderbolt has it's own theme song. Posted Image

Just made 725 damage and 2 kills with that build on an unskilled 2A... so, yep.

Well I sure wouldn't mind the Thunderbolt getting back that hilarious -20% PPC heat quirk on a few of its variants... Posted Image

I really don't feel like the Roughneck is overperforming other IS 65 tonners...

That's because it's a solid mech that isn't necessarily better than other mechs in its weight class.

The IS Heavies are actually all really good, in my experience, though some of them have smaller niches than others. Between the combination of survivability, speed (most run 65-70+ kph which is decent if not good) and firepower, they're likely the class of IS mechs that has the least issues in the game atm. I'm pretty confident it's also the class with the most options available to it, meaning that if you want to play IS Heavies, you can do pretty much anything, from laser vomit to poptart sniping to missile boating.

That said, I feel like I couldn't get the Roughneck I bought to really mesh with my playstyle. My -2A with an LB10X, MRM30 and 3 MLs is okay, serviceable but not my first choice if I want to run around in a Heavy mech (that's my 2x LB10X + 4 ML MAD-3R!). Maybe the Hero Roughneck from the Christmas gift will be more my style - going to go LB20X + 3x SRM6 on it and see how that works.

I only have one but from what i've used there are a lot of better alternatives.. For me the roughneck was a pretty poor mech.. Fragile and can't fit hardly anything in it, maybe i have a crap variant but its kinda a waste of cbils to me.

All of them are pretty strong, but not overperforming, except the 1B. The 1B is the meh mech of the bunch.

OP is correct, it shouldn't be. Good thing it's not. IS 65 tonners are generally quite good.
