I do 1v1s with a bunch of friends and it's usually either scorces or ON1-IIC that win.

Quick matches so you don't need to bring extra ammo and skimp on heat sinks. Usually go UAC20/ 4asrm6 and some medpulse. UAC can be a liability but I try not to double tap unless I know I can take the risk

At what point during MechCon did they say that was going to happen? Mechs are being sorted into 7 'Divisions,' and while they did say they wont strictly be done by weight, they never said Locusts would be taking on Annihilators.

That wouldn't be fair for the Annihilator.

Some form of energy draw will be needed. Until then, I'll be in my direstar in that corner over there.

Stock urbie fights were super fun though.

People just don't get it.

In 1v1, 2v2 mech balance/build is 100x more critical than QP. There will be 1, at most 3 ideal builds in each weight class that will utterly dominate. I mean like 9 out of 10 dominate. Your "favorite build" will lose you every match.

Mechs will have to be symetrical. Otherwise I'm going to pick your strong side before you get 3 alphas off. Every time.sometimes before you get 2.

I'm going to leg you 4 seconds in to every single match. 4 seconds in, 1 leg is gone. Always, every match, from the moment we're engaged.

I'm going to have a flamer or 2, always, and a super low heat mech so your laservomit will always lose. Always. Every match.

Its all brawl. Every match. Regardless of map.

The skill gap is going to create a massive win/loss disparity. Good players will win 8 or 9 out of 10, everyone else will lose 8 or 9 out of 10.

thats why it needs to be free for all IMO

because then the better players are kept in check by people ganging up on them at the start lol.

1v1 is just boring. there is no substance to 1v1 matches.

FFA would be way more fun. And solaris should be about generating fun matches. Not be some epeen measuring system.

for like a week. then it will get old. and boring. and no one will want to play it. like CW.

Also ,2v2 should see some nice strategies. Wonder if we'll see only identical builds at top level or if they will be harmonious builds that play off of each other

Now that you mention it that could very well be a problem for two big reasons:

1. In normal play, "one hit wonder" builds are hindered because there's an entire enemy team to deal with. With only a single opponent, this weakness is removed entirely.

2. When you complete the victory conditions of any match, stuff like heat and damage no longer register. If you pass the 100% threshold just as the match ends, you don't actually shut down or suffer damage. Thus, the fact that mechs like the Direstar normally commit suicide would not apply (if their one shot hits successfully).

I'm expecting people like B33f to find pretty crazy ways to cheese this. Rocket Launcher spam is gonna be absurd since their weakness also just got removed (weakness of only one shot doesn't matter if you eliminated your only opponent with that one shot).

It would be really cool to see a stock mode league for Solaris

Jenner-F will be my first choice and then when I realize it's no good I'll change it to some other light until I get frustrated or bored with the mode and quit. I doubt I'll go out of my way to build special mechs for the sole purpose of fighting in Solaris. Will be interesting to see what gimmicky contraptions others bring in though.

People been wanting this for a while so hopefully it's well put together, fun, and successful.

Depends on the size of the arenas. If they are all about as big as the Steiner one, there might be room to wiggle between loadout types. On the other hand, it is much harder to stay at range in an arena than it is to close with a target and brawl it out.

Being a medium pilot, I'd honestly take either my Shadow Cat or my Huntsman.

Won't this depend pretty heavily on how the grading system ends up working? Based on past experience with PGI we should expect to see some mechs be grossly over/underpowered for their actual tonnage/c-bill value if they're placed in the wrong tier or whatever.

I'm trying a Mauler 2P with LB20 and UAC20, but can't decide on 3xMLas or Flamers.

Yeah it'll probably be pretty bad in the beginning.
I expect to see some mech ranking adjustments pretty soon after Solaris launches.

Just saying. Mech "nicknames" should be shown in Solaris matches. I mean solaris pilots were known by having nicknames on their dear mechs, doubling the chance of being recognized by the crowd.

Sure all would know the name/ nickname of the pilot, but what was his mech last time?
Barrage!
Oh, yeah sure that Atlas with a fistful of srms and a cute lil' AC 20, know I remember!

I disagree about the CW part. Solaris 7 will be more "fair" that no 12 man will stomp randomly mixed pugglies. In solaris there will be one on one or two for two. More even, I dont think you can group up with another for maximum curb stomping there.

I DO however agree with FFA. Seriously! At least have grand finals or championship allow at least 12 FFA top Solaris players duking it out in an absolute chaos for the top prize. 3 mechs from each weight category going bonkers!

Unless they make CW what it was originally made out to be with economic system, R&R etc. Solaris will make CW a desert, except for a few die hard comp teams strolling the galaxy.

Temper your expectations. The ladders will be dominated by the PGI Masters. We're left fighting the scraps.

Yep and I have a build Bushwacker that I have been using for months since new tech came out. Its just FUN for me to play. Its not meta or "good" in terms of comp play, but in 1v1 its gonna be Reee FUN! Ive had a bit of practice with it during those weekend events where everyone is doing SCOUTING MATCHES! When you need to ensure you GET THAT SOLO KILL, this Build worked great for me during the event! :)

Hmm. Not sure which mechs I will take... Hang on. We get to use our own mechs alredy there right? I imagined as with a proper CW that we start from scratch and earn up mechs to use with the Solaris payment system. But that would be a double edged sword. On one side, you will feel the weight of progress, struggle and reward, even more if repair and rearm have been included. But on the other side, it would make the rooster of mechs you alredy have be for nothing and of no avaiable use besides ordinary QP, CW, group play and private matches.

Cant wait though. Will bring at least 2 mechs of each weight class, one clan, one is. I have alredy set up a few mechs long ago with that S7 decal on spare variants/ configs. Aka the standard variant ( Shadow Hawk 2H)/ config of collector edition/ Champion ( say Champion SDH 2H(C)) special/ loyality etc mechs. I have setup the others in stone. The spare ones are used for messing around with builds AND Solaris!
