Bolt ons that stay bolted on rather than get touched and fall off. I'm not going to spend money on a cosmetic to where it would fall off if someone looked at me funny.

This is a bit crazy to suggested, but how's about a "Battle Armor Companion" as a bolt-on? In lore it was know that Battle Armor would travel with Mechs while on missions. The way how it could be done is that the animation will just show the Battle Armor Companion breathing and when it is shot off, it goes into a death animation like mechs. They won't do any damage since they are bolt-ons, so they are just joining for the ride. You could make two Battle Armor counterpart based on the two pieces of technology. IS Standard Armor for the Inner Sphere and the Elemental Battle Armor for the Clans.

UPDATE: Added the Clan Battle Armor for the Nova Cats and updated the bolt-on picture to give more details.
