And of course, no 6E, 2B variant. IS just can't have nice things.

It makes me sad, in a way, since it reminds me of what this game could have been. Mechs with more unique roles that have more character, so this mech would have a cool and flavorful purpose. And a game where hitboxes and hardpoint placement were not the end all and be all of a mech's power. Oh, that and quirks, which come and go.
I don't know... more than any mech lately, this one reminds me of what MWO could have been vs. what it is.

Side torso barrels don't run along enough of the center torso. Makes the whole thing feel kind of compressed and also makes the CT feel like it juts out too much.
Otherwise, though, the mech has all the features of the original. Big fan ports on the back? Yep. Weird square things that jut out below the CT? Yep. Arm shields? Yep.

How are you going to shoot my ST after I've erased your CT?
With what? Your twin HGauss shot? Last time I checked the average laser vomit did a similar amount of damage. And you can run that in 'mechs that don't have gigantic side torsos.
But, as per usual: People who love it will run it, people who don't love it or think it will just fail horribly won't touch it at all.

Well, looks like that's pretty much what the original game offers (and the upcoming HB's Battletech).
There are MechCommander 1/2 if you don't like turn based games.

Many people run sub 58 with high success...notice anything running dual Hgauss is extremely slow?
its the hitboxes that are the issue, not the engine.

Again, Nightstar has the same problem. Can't really use its 350+ engine cap, because the good firepower is too heavy and it has only 5x E.

Look at the height of the the mounts. Right now the dual HGauss build works great on the Sleipnir, various Maulers, and Annihilators. Those mechs have ballistic mounts well below the cockpit and require at least half exposure. Now look at the Fafnir. You'll be lucky to get half your heavy laser vomit on me because I'll be backing down from my vertical peek as soon as I shoot. And if we get into an open field fight you're done because I'll be twisting and spreading your laser fire while I hit you with PPFLD.
