Guess they wont want to make the annihalator obsolete. .. But yeah,

I am. Okay with it. But she better have some nice goddamn ballistic quirks. Nightstar was a disaster. Terrible quirks, gaint mech, DOA.

A beast can never replace a God. Annihilator is well and truly safe.

The ECM worries me because of the type of mech its on. An Inner Sphere 100-tonner receives massive damage and thus need lots of armor quirks. But history shows that ECM prohibits mechs from getting the same amount of quirks as non-ECM mechs.

I may still pick one up as my "Biteme Harmony-Grinch" mechpack.

Alex did say it would come with both Davion and Steiner camos. :)

ok, in the Mechwarriodr series of PC games, this was by far my favorite. I LEARNED how to use it's strengths an weaknesses like any other mech in this game.
After reading some initial knee jerking responses, It once again boils down to working within the limits of each and every mech this game has and the Fafnir is no exception.

However, it does look like it still needs some modeling work as it's a bit squashed for the Heavy Gauss housings. Cmon PGI, fix that for us please and you got a winner design wise.

Wow.This thread is killing me with it's hilarity.

It's the Fafnir. You wanted the Fafnir. It's an absolute beast of a mech.
You wanted this.
It has a higher engine rating than an Anni.
It has a boatload of hardpoints.
You wanted this.

IT'S THE FAFNIR

and still... you complain.

smh people.

But....but....Complaints! Why does the Fafnir get TWO Heavy Gauss rifles?!

I like how your starting early with the its not that bad threads. A++ impressed with your commitment to the apologist agenda

Its 100 tons of gimpTech, I don't know what world you live in brah but thats not a recipe for a 'absolute beast of a mech'.

Haha ok, you're right my bad. Fafnir is going to be absolutely terrible, what could I have possibly thought.
I guess I live in a world that doesn't absolutely revolve around suckling on what is "comp" meta.
Thos UUUUUUGE STs are going to be horrendous. After having been on the receiving end of a Hgauss assault on more times than I care to recall I can say without a doubt that all they do only tickle a tiny little bit.
The Annihilator sucks as well. Terrible, terrible mech.
This is THE Hgauss mech. So ya.

God save the Queen, and the Fafnir.

Personally, I had no interest in the Fafnir apart from the potential to get a good standard Gauss-vomit 'Mech. Which we ain't getting. Already have plenty of great HGauss 'Mechs.

Right, the Mauler, Clops and Annihilator. To be noteworthy one or two variant should prolly have some flavoring added towards the Hgauss platform (range/velo I'm assuming), whilst the others get a myriad of others. Also, as others have alluded to in a way, the non-ECM variants will likely benefit from better survivability.

Just because there are other assaults that can run the Hgauss and do it well, doesn't mean that the Fafnir can't make it king.

I'm with ya Shadow, the Bane would be such a cool looking mech re-imagined methinks.

Wolfhound WLF-2 and the WLF-GR have the same armour quirks. I know it isn't an assault but there is precedent for the ECM mech to get the same armour quirks.

WLF-GR however did lose the very small quirk buffs -5% Energy Heat and -5% ERLL heat.
So the Faf may lose a little elsewhere but keep the armour

New blood here and I gotta say, this one looks like a dud for me. Great that people that have been with BT are getting a nostalgia trip but I'm just disappoint that this announcement wasn't something that the rest of the community could benefit from. (like a map)

When the anni dropped, i had some serious doubts, but I also saw its potential, given its Geo.
Then PGI quirked it really well, and now look, its king kong IS assault.

This though...its a walking building...the hit boxes...omg...

You think the Thanato's torsos pops off quickly, holy crap this thing is even bigger.
Everything in me would love to see this thing succeed and be good TBH, but...dat geo...

I'll pick one up for Cbills eventually and run 3ERLL and dual gauss, or some mix of gauss vomit, but thats probably it.
I wouldn't even take HGauss on it I don't think.

Slepnir is more mobile, so it can get around easy.
Victor can poptart Hgauss
Mauler...well this guy here is just an obsolete platform. Slepnir is better at both 4xUac5s and HGauss. And the Anni boats more Uac5/ac5. Only thing left for it is hex uac/ac2s. PGI? Hello? Please buff?
Then you have the good Ol faithful, the Anni...

Don't really know why I would want another Hgauss platform for...

It should receive significant amount of HGR (preferably with general ballistic) range quirks.

Players should want to put HGRs on this 'Mech because it's the HGR-'Mech and that's the reason for the proposed quirk(s).

The Anni only works because of the armor. No armor, it becomes a joke. Saying it would suck without quirks was the right call before we knew the quirks.

True, but I wouldn't say that the annihilator has good hitboxes per say. It's basically a walking bulbous CT with a giraffes neck slapped onto it.
It's pretty crazy what the skilltree did for some mechs and not for others. Clops wasn't that much of a hot potato before the skilltree and CWtech but slap on a pinch more durability and some new weapons and now it's in a pretty nice place. Same can be said for the hellbringer, quickdraw, Gargles (niche before was nerfed but now runs meta vomit ok) and ice ferret. Just kidding, ice ferret is still the masochists mech.

I'm gonna lay off the "it's not that bad" theme that I get horked on for some reason, and just say I think it will be pretty damn cool looking. If you can't function with a ECM carrying 100 ton assault juggernaut, you've got other issues.

So what's next in the realm of assaults? Charger? Kraken? Blood Asp would just get so much hate.
Smell the roses guys instead of looking at the **** you stepped on.
