Aww, look who needs a safe space. If you get crushed that hard and camped at your drop zone, it's entirely your own fault. What is the enemy supposed to do? Let you kill a few mechs to make it even again, and the same the next wave, and so on? Do you even have a tiny spark of competitive mindset? That's just not how it works, man. Do you think Tom Brady would drop the ball intentionally for the enemy team a few times after scoring 3 touchdowns within the first 3 drives? No, you go balls deep for destruction. This is not toddler league, where every kid gets a trophy. When you first start playing FP, you get a warning that things are a bit different here. Actually read and comprehend this, please.

Some units are ruthless, and they have every right to play that way. If you can't handle it, fine. Go back to QP. But stop forcing others to be "fair" when they are better skilled than you. We have enough socialism in our society already, can't hold the successful people back in every game as well Posted Image

And don't get me wrong, I understand where you come from with your arguments. We Mariks drop vs EVIL, BCMC, MS etc. all the time. Sometimes we get utterly slaughtered, sometimes we hold up relatively well. But however it goes, we learn from the experience. When we get cornered in drop zones, we know we f'ed up big time. We try and figure out how to prevent that next time. We don'T mass eject, we don't try to dodge them, we f'ing face them and give it our best. Grow some balls, please. I have dropped many times vs Palfatreos and Ash, and they are not the type of sadistic seal clubbers you hold them for.

I hate to say it, but in this case the old Clammer line fits: Git gud! Or at least, improve Posted Image

I never asked for a safe space or a participation trophy. If you can kick my *** DO IT i will tip my hat to you and try my best to be a better challenge next time. Ive had beatings handed to me by Kcom, MS and other units without a complaint from me. They fought, they tried to teach. They did not mock or insult you for being average.

I'm not sure how anyone can defend a practice of shooting mechs before the pilot even has control of them. If you are good enough to mock pilots for being average you should be good enough to at least let them mount up a fight.

Telling people to git gud and go back to QP is kind of counter productive to Faction Play population don't you think ? I'm trying to bring a unit of 50 average/below average players into faction play. We are little better than pugs. We are eager to participate and learn.

Being gang ***** as we free fall from the drop ship and mercilessly mocked isn't the way you get players to join you in faction play. The same people that complain about population are the same people responsible for more players leaving faction play than Long Tom and Poor Development decisions by PGI.

As an adult i will Apologize to the players i ranted at in the past. This is a game after all, i lost my cool. I would just like to point out the hypocrisy of wanting more players in faction play and then doing everything in your power to make sure those new players have zero fun. You don't have to let us get kills or let us win. Just fight us. Farming just breeds salt, which i fear is what some of you want.

I hate to say it but both of these replies bring problems to the game:
pheeere could have explained that FW is a different kind of tug-of-war, and if you lose too hard then there's no coming back from it. That's just the way FW works. INSTEAD you proceeded to mock him for bringing up his frustrations with the game mode. This is the trolling I would expect to see on reddit; it does not belong here.

And Racerxintegra2k, expecting the enemy will give you an inch of space to move around IS a childish sentiment. War doesn't work like that, and so MWO shouldn't either. I'm sorry but expecting the opposing team to take into consideration how much fun you are having before moving in for the win just won't ever happen. Yes, this is a game. Yes, you can have fun with it. BUT, in competition there can only be one winner. Take from your losses something by which you can improve.

As one of the new players that has gotten a lot of value from the contributions of Ash, Palfatroes, and others to this post, can we please keep it on topic? Without taking sides or pointing fingers at anyone, there are plenty of other posts regarding farming, bad manners, poor sports, etc. already - I'm sure one of those posts would be better suited for those sorts of discussions.

@Palfatroes, thank you for the skill tree lists. If someone were looking to do a MRM build (wolverine 7D or Quickdraw IV-Four), would the SRM skill tree you posted be similar to what you would use for MRM? And somewhat related, would taking any of the velocity skills for an AC20 or MRM missile build be a waste? I noticed that most people don't take velocity skills.

Heh, if the mech got some speed quirks from the get-go, you might wanna toy around with those velo-skills a bit and see if fits you & works .
Also ... If your ballistics and missiles are faster your chances of hitting rise quite substantially (looks at BJ1-DC with AC10 ... hilarious thing with that refire rate ^^ ) ;)

Have fun testing the everliving hanky-pank out of your stuff :)

It viable to get velocity if you want it just i find the base of weapons good enough so i put them on low priority to get. I find them mostly helpfull on long range projectile weapons.

As for mrms i still torn between 2 skill tree. Dropped mech ops tree since i dont feel much heat problems with it and get 2 coolshots as backup. spend most sp to get weapon +missil ammo/spread (not really sure spread does much on mrm),cooldown and heatgen (range where just getting in the way).

https://kitlaan.gitl...d01b9#s=Weapons
9 sp 60% radar - 1 struc node
https://kitlaan.gitl...ed7d1#s=Weapons
8accel/decel

@elad do you build your own mech or sombody teaching you the loadouts? just wondering because the loadouts you asked to looked into are topnotch for new player (tbh i dont expect most vets to make efficient builds)

MRMS are like the Clan streaks and I play them in a similar fashion.

My profession requires me to do a lot of research, and that tend to bleed over into the games I play and how I play them. I started playing in mid-December (my account is older, but I had only completed the tutorial previously), so outside of the Battlemaster, all the rest of the mechs I bought 40-50% off. When I bought them, I spent the time to read the quirks, look at videos, and check various posts regarding builds, etc. I definitely had some misfires (in hindsight should have bought a different Roughneck, definately didn't need to buy two urbies, and should have bought a Mad 5D instead of a second Mad-3R), but have managed (I think) to pick pretty solid mechs for the most part. I usually try to find 2 or 3 examples of builds and then do my own smurfy build out before I buy a mech. It has taken awhile to figure out how to "sort" builds that may be outdated or not match my playstyle. I've made a few misteps and spent several million cbills on less than ideal builds and skill points, so my approach is more of a "measure twice, cut once" to try and keep down on wasted cbills since being c-bill starved is my biggest limitation right now.

That being said, I did some drops with Kcom over the weekend, and I paid attention to which mechs they were dropping with, asked some questions, and did some research on builds for those mechs. Similar to this thread, several of their members have gone the extra mile to help out a newbie. The one thing I have really noticed about this community is that a lot of the players are really willing to help new players.

Willing to help new players who are willing to also help themselves.

No one wants to help a newbie who argues with you about why LRMs are great weapons in any situation or why they need 25 rear armor on their Atlas (obviously extreme examples).

I expect most of the newbies posting in this thread to go far in this mode - y'all are gonna be the next generation of pilots who get singled out by your enemies Posted Image

Just want to address this point for a moment.

If there's an objective on the map and your team goes 12-0 or better, with the enemy clearly too weak to put up any fight at all, and you ignore the objective to focus on spawn camping mechs you forfeit the right to say you're being "competitive" or playing to win. You're not actually playing to win. You could be winning, but you're choosing to instead prolong the game so you can farm damage. I'm not saying there's anything necessarily wrong with doing that, but you cannot honestly claim that that is playing to win or playing competitively when it is very clearly neither.

That said, there's a clear difference between pushing an enemy's spawn strategically, throwing away mechs to deal damage to the enemy's next wave and potentially getting a few kills along the way, and sitting outside dropship range focus-firing mechs before they even hit the ground.

Subjective, but this is my view.

Every group drop in a FW game, hell, even with pugs, I call a push for the spawn. If the reds stop us, fine and dandy. If the juggernaut doesn't stop, what is better? Have us push all the way to the spawn (and "spawn camp" and get gibbed by dropships) and die for a hard reset, or, for us to smash the gen and end the game at 12-0 so we deny the reds c-bills?

I have no qualms doing either, because I only drop in FW for the c-bills.

I belive this has been said before by someone else, but ill say it again
People spawn camp beacuse after you wait for a long time for a FW match, its quite unsatisfying to end in that match for a few minutes. And gen rushes will also piss the defenders off, as they have waited for awhile as well.

I too would personally prefer being rolflstomped rather than gen rushed. I see each new wave as a challenge to beat. However that can put off new players, but honestly, they need to accept the fact they will lose, come to this thread and others for help, find a team and try their best.

Each rolflstomp is a learning moment. I played several games with the FRRhub, and i was a mediocre player and now im a skilled one. Even just knowing that when you see kcom that they will push out on you, you can use that knowlege from previous experince to try and do your best.

This thread contains some great advice and build info, for those that want to discuss spawn camping or game in balance or any other of the myriad topics that don't pertain to FP strategy and build advice, can you please do it elsewhere? I'd hate to see this thread get jettisoned because of veering of topic.

Back on topic, with my current Clan mech stable (listed earlier in detail and below in summary), what should I be looking to get as my next mech purchase? I have two mechbays and ~21m Cbills to work with. Was thinking an Ebon Jaguar, but I'm not quite sure if it would be the best thing for my current situation and I'd rather not spend that many Cbills without being totally sure it's the way to go (and what build it should use).

Current Clan mechs (smurfy links in a previous post in this thread)
KDK-3

SMN-M
HBR-F
MDD-A

HMN-PRIME
HMN-A
HMN-B
