It took me months myself to get to a level where I had a grasp of FP myself. Lots of training and in-house lobbies against unit mates before I became competent.

I still remember when you were scrub learning from another scrub called Serial Number, good times. Now you're even better than me and keep helping ppl, what have I become =D

But yeah guys, Ash can help you easily if you're willing to learn, except when you're a gen rusher, then 07 unit is waiting for ya. =D

Ivan, it really is going to depend on the group you are playing with. Some like range, some like mobility, some like speed, etc, etc. Just be aware that a setup that works well in QP does not directly translate to FW.

My comments - no particular order.

You have nothing long range. So for any map - Polar / Alpine / Frozen / Boreal - you are basically dead weight. You need to address this.

RACs are a bad weapon for FP. They are not direct / focus damage. Spread like crazy and are too hot. Remove them. Plus you are mixing long range with short. That's a no-no.

Black Widow build - dont use IS PPCs. They suuuuck. Go the traditional dakka IMO. That way it works on hot & neutral maps etc.

The Top Dog build, personally, not a fan as it's too hot (I've run it myself). It is a good poke mech but it's sustained DPS is not ideal at all. Drop a laser and pick up a heatsink.

Also Smurfy links are better than just the weapon loadout. Things like ammo location, armour, engines and other things are all factors in a build. Not just the mech / weapon it contains.

Regarding this first deck:

1) The Warhammer 6R is better for your PPC/UAC build than the Black Widow. Not a huge difference, and maybe you prefer more cbills, but the heat gen is better.

2) The Top Dog build is better on a Grasshopper 5H, Warhammer 6D, or a Black Knight. I’d take one of the 70-tonners here.

Otherwise these are some solid chassis/weapon choices.

Wolfhound Grinner: 5 Med Laser => WLF-2 2 has better quirck + 1 extra laser hardpoint so you can go 6 med although prefer 5 mpl. same alpha shorter range but better duration and dps.

Dual heavy guass on the Sleipner, you can do any other builds on regular Cyclops...
Quad AC5's on the Black Widow, again you can do anything else on the regular Warhammers
7 medium pulse on the TopDog

Pick your mechs based on how you're going to be fighting...if your team is going to brawl, you want 4 brawlers, if you're gonna poke and trade at long range, you want erll's and er ppcs, maybe some guass. It's all map dependent and team dependent.

Cold maps bring laser mechs, hot maps bring autocannon mechs. Lrms are okay on polar if you have teammates that will NARC for you. Avoid them on all other maps (unless your with a team that wants to troll).

well an organized LRM on Boreal Vault is fun, but any LRM in FW needs to be coordinated, PUG LRM's are just bad

LEGIT - MY PC IS/HAS/MIGHT BE SHEETING ITSELF.

I cannot load or play anything, some Windows7 update last night has screwed my machine over and I have all these .DLL errors (nothing new). Spent 3hrs fixing it now and it's still crashing like mad. So I'll update to Win 10 tonight, stay up late as I have too and get it done.

I have told a few I'm on tomorrow, if for some reason I am not, this is why.

Hopefully I get it sorted.

Salutations Ash,

had some late night drops (I am from Germany) with you under my main account and also as aLoadofBacon.

At the moment my unit took a hand full of newbies which are either completely new to the game or have to build up their mech stables for faction.

As I teached myself a lot and now have some insight to faction ( most of the time, or at least I hope so) I am worring that my unit slowly degrees to one of the Objective Rush Units to get the newbies some victories as they are sometimes not able to pull it by their own.

The two or three veterans which are able to call are not always online and I by myself cannot call and compensate the newbies.

As we are a "Fun" unit there are no training days and such things. We have many casual players which are online only a couple of days a week, mostly weekends.

Would be nice if you could send a group invite the next time you drop so I can learn new positions or tactics to counter that development because I much more prefer to go down fighting than pulling a hollow victory by Objective rush.

Had a similar issue 2 weeks ago. . Took me offline for a week. Seems to be some conflict with the new update. Spent 2 1/2 hours with my PC makers premium support hotline trying different things to get a connection to any game server (it knocked all the online games my family plays out...could see servers, but not establish a connection), They couldn’t figure out how to solve it without reverting to the old version of my windows OS. I just hope whatever my problem is gets solved in some future patch/update.

Anyway...best of luck to you and I hope you don’t have to do what I did...but if you can’t solve it another way reverting worked for me.

Ash,

I don't think I've shared my smurfy links before, and haven't shared my planned skill paths. All but one of the mechs (BLR-1G) are bought - I've made some notes on current status. All of the mechs currently have survival tree complete, but no (or few) other points assigned to them so I can still change if I got the skills horribly wrong. I have the mechs for my third deck as well, but not focusing on that right now. Would love to hear thoughts on builds or skill paths.

Deck 1:
GHR 5H (3LL, 4ERML)
GHR 5H (3LL, 4ERML) currently working towards buying LE engine
GHR 5H (3LL, 4ERML) currently working towards buying LE engine
ENF-4R (3LL, 2ERML), currently XL engine, may change to LE after other builds complete – May run this CRB-27B until LE engine is purchased for ENF as I generally die quicker, with less damage, in the ENF with XL (at least in QP).

Planned skill path for Deck 1(other than for CRB-27B)

Deck 2:
BLR-1G (5ERLL) Don’t yet own Mech
WHR-6D (5ERLL) currently working towards buying LE engine
RFL-3C (4ERLL) currently working towards buying LE engine
CRB-27 (3ERLL, 1ERML) currently XL engine, may change to LE after other builds complete

Planned skill path for Deck 2

Other owned mechs if relevant:
UrbanMech UM-R60
UrbanMech UM-R60L
Wolfhound WLF-2
Assassin ASN-21
Bushwacker BSW-P1
Bushwacker BSW-X1
Roughneck RGH-2A

Thunderbolt TDR-9SE
Warhammer WHR-6R
Marauder MAD-3R
Marauder MAD-3R
Mauler MAL-MX90

Edit: Updated Rifleman link, had linked to prior build without targeting comp.
