Assuming the next mech is an assault mech; what are the chances the development team is redesigning the Marauder to be the next one? Doesn’t the Jagermech look similar to a redesigned Rifleman? I hope they can bring back the Marauder; it’s such an iconic mech!

Thoughts

edit: I was talking about the Marauder II. Is this an unseen? Unseen, reseen is very confusing, lol.

just one problem, the marauder is a heavy chassis, not an assault.

The Jagermech has always looked much like that. Get hold of a copy of the original 3025 technical readout and you'll see the Jagermech in there. It is not a redesigned Rifleman.

There already are redesigns for all the unseen Mechs. As far as I gathered, it didn't help. Harmony Gold is still not interested at all in having them reappear in any way, shape or form.

They even threw a hissy fit over the Warhammer seen in the 2009 Mechwarrior reboot trailer, even though it was a redesign that looked nothing like the Macross Destroid it was based on.

The Marauder is one of the most famous classic heavy mechs. Given its unique appearance, It will be difficult to redeign and keep within the spirit of the original. I am afraid that HG, those of sordid and vile memory, will object to any thing with a hull, 2 arms and 2 legs if the past has been any indication. It would be great if the matter ofthe "unseen" were to be resolved one way or the other in the foreseeable future. I would love to see the classic mediums and the Archer show up in the game as well.

If there is enough interest in PGI, and I would bet there is, some of the people are probably already sketching out new designs as they have time. Harmony Golds being a little cry baby is not that much of a problem, it will be what the fans of the game think when they release an Unseen that is a radical departure from the original line art. Will we be able to accept the changes to get the mech underneath?

There are basically two reasons to include an Unseen Mech:

1.) Because it looks nostalgic
2.) Because it offers hardpoints and variants that are a valuable addition to the existing roster

Option 1.) doesn't work, because either HG will throw a fuss, or it will be redesigned so far that the nostalgic look is missing entirely.

Option 2.) is more easily and safely fulfilled by looking at Mechs that do not have the Unseen issue. There are a LOT of Mechs in BattleTech.

You missed the third reason: Because the many unseen mechs have a heroic presence in Canon. They show up in battles piloted by the big names of the universe and so merit scrutiny.

If the next is assault whats the chances of it being a battlemaster? Isn't that a reseen?

I for one am totally down for this. I don't care if it is the Project Phoenix Marauder that everyone seemed to hate, or Bishop Steiner's Maurader sketch which everyone seemed to love. Give me a 75 ton mech, With energy slots/pods on its arms and a configurable dorsal mount. I honestly don't care too much what it looks like, but call it a Marauder.

That way we get our Marauder, that we know is in use with all the great houses, and Piranha doesn't get a cease and decist order from Harmony Gold's legal team. I know many folks don't agree with me, but it would work.

I'm giong to be generous and say 2%, of course just because Alex draws it doesn't mean it is going in the game.

Harmony Gold only has legal rights to the art work. Not the name or the game data and canon with it. Catalyst could easily come in and do a completely different mech rendition around the "guts" so to speak so it had same tonnage, weapon load out armor etc but just not look similar to previous marauder looks.

That being said, the Warhammer rendition looked very much like a warhammer. I recognized it as a warhammer right away. Therefore harmony gold probably felt the same way and made a stink.

Who knows it may be more then drawn. I have known teams or artists, sketch to 3D and skinning, to take a little time each do to make something they believe in even if it is not a part of the schedule. A sketch may have been made, a Modeler could have workd during lunch to model and texture it, and animator may have done the same to animate it. A few mechs could exist in a hard drive that we have no idea about. Dedicated people that are doing this because they love the product and not the paycheck do things some may not expect.

Sadly those redesigns would not work in MWO. The cockpit/head is way to exposed...every CT hit would be a head hit.
