Solaris is about the synergy found between MechWarriors and their BattleMechs. It is the ultimate display of their capabilities as a pilot and being in sync with their BattleMechs capabilities. It is because of this and nature of 1v1/2v2 arena combat, consumables will not be allowed in Solaris.

OH Noes! How will I ever Last without Strikes and Cool Shots.

Yay or Nay?

Yay!

Now, if they would just go ahead and take Coolshots and Strikes out of the rest of the game.

I hate consumables as much as the next guy, but this was basically the last straw for Solaris for me. I went from not really caring a lot to not caring in the slightest.

1v1 is basically the mode where consumables matter the least. Air strikes can't be placed in sneaky place and matches don't usually last long enough to spam them, and the builds that require coolshots to function are not the 1v1 meta. Pretty much the only use of consumables in 1v1 was... anti-flamer saves.

Flamers are already anti-fun in 1v1s. Maybe coolshots are a crutch that shouldn't be in Solaris, but it's the crutch I was hoping for to keep certain builds functional. I have no interest in playing MWO: HGR or Go **** Yourself Edition.

I am very happy to see consumables gone, it will curb hyper alpha builds that need coolshots to work. Sure flamers will be an issue, but, this means likely people will have to have backup weapons for the situation someone brings flamers to the party that won't put them over their heat limit and let them dance against an enemy that is saturating them with heat. This could lead to some weird shifts in meta for the first season of Solaris. I am expecting legging to be the main thing though. Blow the legs off, move off to 100m where flamers do nothing, laugh as they can't do **** to you with their butane torches and farm damage. I mean it isn't like we are starting at 10 paces facing away from one another.

People actually care for solaris?
"What can we add to this arena shooter?"
"an arena shooter mode?"
"nailed it!"

I can tell you right now Heavy Gauss will not be the Solaris meta. Snubs/AC20 and Splat are much better, even a SL/MG Nova.

Just spit out HGR as the first cool brawling weapon I could think of.

You are right, Snubs/AC20s and Mega splat are most likely going to be the meta, as they have been in player organized 1v1s for some time. And losing consumables has virtually no affect on them except for maybe as a counter when someone screws up their volley timing and ghost heats.

It seems like builds that are decent brawl builds will be able to cut down on ammo and run more HS and flamers so this will really cut down on the number of mechs that can perform well. Hardpoint saturated ones with nice engine caps will rise to the top. Then again there are a lot of counters to other builds depending what kind of maps you get stuck in. Closing on an enemy that is fast and can keep range on you could be real annoying.

I feel like I could kill any mech 1v1 with my huntsman in qp but then some guy with actual skill will kill me with a machine gun and a single ppc so it will make for a humbling and interesting game mode.

The crowd that always want lock-on missiles buffed are gonna hurt their fingers posting after this starts running.

Rockets really aren't the 1v1 super stars most people think they are. The have a surprisingly bad hit rate when the target knows whats coming, they spread damage really bad, and they leave you pretty undergunned after you've fired off your one time alpha.

They make for a decent opening volley on things like the AC/20+SNPPC Bushwacker, but besides that, not a weapon you really want to put much stock in.

Rockets are a one time use. You either miss or fk it up hitting something you shouldn't and it's gg. I don't really see this happening at all unless it's that one guy doing it for the lulz.

There's not much a coolshot is going to do to save you against someone with flamers. That's 18 heat that it frees up for a moment, each flamer generates 4.5, you know whoever is using them is going to have a minimum of 2, so your best bet is you have 2 seconds before that coolshot gets negated entirely.

Ballistics and SRMs would be pretty good in general, and while under flamer attack you can chainfire the SRMs or fire any ballistic weapon you want other than RACs. SNPPC would still shut you down since it usually will generate more than 10% of your heat capacity at once, unless you have some great quirks for heat gen combined with an extra high heat cap.

Still, I'm really glad coolshots, and all consumables are banned. If we had two identical builds the guy with the coolshot would just have an unfair advantage for 40k cbills, would legit be pay to win, but free to do, so a total cbill sink.

Something like this ARC-5W could work 1v1 In theory at least (I don't own Archer so don't know how ****** it really is). Have basic splat weapons + rockets for extra low heat + massive damage.

The thing about rockets is that they're better vs internals than armor. More of a finisher weapon, especially when your other stuff is on cooldown.
