In recent matches people dont seem to understand the concept of gg-ing. So ill do my best to help everyone one out

When gg-ing type it after the losing team has gg-ed not before, if you do before the losing team it is considered bad manners. Please gg responsibly and avoid creating salt. In fact it is best to say: "thank you for the match" instead as it is more neutral and less bound to create salt.

avoid gg-ing in matches that are close to stomps say 2-12 or 0-12 as this tends to generate the most amounts of salt.

remember only to gg after the losing team and have fun mechwarriors. hopefully this will lead to the future of better manners and more pleasant matches

It's the legacy of House of Lords, still haunting the community.

I just say "thanks for the match" if it was a stomp in my favor. "GG" is for the actual good games.

This again? Most ppl typing GG aren't really thinking about it. Even in stomps it seems rare that anyone uses it to be a jerk.

It's all about interpretation. If you think the other team stomping you 12-1 and then GG-ing first afterwards is bad manners, then that's solely on you... it's not to create salt unless that's the person who is GG-ing was intending to do and given that this is the internet you'll never know unless they express otherwise.

It's not toxic unless you think it is, in which you could be wrong so it's best not to take it personal.

A lot of people are quickly GG-ing in response to a GG that someone typed in unit chat, without thinking about it.

It's really best to not get Dr. Phil into the psychology of the GG. Just move on to the next one.

If you really like the game, you type "good game lads", "tight fight" or something like that.
"gg" in All chat is just a spit on enemy team, don't mistake it for anything else. I totally disapprove this.

I will GG however and whenever I want. Take it as you will, salty tears are delicious as well.

On this topic, I've been doing a little non-scientific study of how people use GG at the end of matches. Note that I only count GGs in public chat because I can only read team chat for my own team (can't account for enemy chat GGs so I don't count either team's). If I did count teamchat GGs then the numbers would be massively skewed towards winner GGs.
My results from MWO and Overwatch so far:

MWO:
Winner GGs: 835
Loser GGs: 336
Ratio: 2.485

Overwatch:
Winner GGs: 647
Loser GGs: 227
Ratio: 2.85

So basically, people are more than twice as likely to say GG if they win than if they lose. This basically shows that the little theory of "it's a handshake dude" isn't actually playing out in reality. People seem to only want to "shake hands" when they win.

Under that logic, you could say that literally any form of communication (even the most extreme of insults) is subjective and purely the fault of the recipient.

Communication is a two-way street. The sender bears just as much responsibility as the receiver, if not more.

I'd say "Thanks for the match", but i felt that "GG" is just easier and pretty much universal. Even if it's not exactly a good game, just say it to be polite even if you didn't win.

Now what is annoying is "GG EZ", and that is what you should be enraged with.

I usually only GG if I felt it was a good, hard fight. If it's a stomp (either way), I just keep it to myself.

Beginning of a match: <.o.
End of a match: <.o.

No salt created, intent understood.

Attributing meaning to the semi-random output of anonymous strangers on the internet is the path of madness!

MAD, I SAY!

Until seeing this thread, I would have NEVER thought of 'gg' as anything other than that; telling all the other players that it was fun playing the game with them, without actually typing the whole sentence. Of course, I tend to look at MWO as nothing more than a game, and have fun no matter whether I win or lose.

I wonder how many I've inadvertently p.o.'d over the past 3 years...

Lol at this thread popping up every month. Why do people even care about something so pathetically small?

The data does not support the conclusion. Nothing in your data says anything about motivation.

The large difference between the winner and loser counts isn't significant?
