That's fine, do what makes you happy. If i had a larger gaming budget i would happily buy many games earlier or even pre-order. At this point in my life i am pretty sure i know what i am going to like and what i'm not. The games i take risks on are 2-5 dollar sale games. Games i buy early are either very small indy games that could use the money. . Or i have played many from that dev before.
I also played a couple MMO's from 2003-2011 so that sucked up much of my gaming budget, which made me miss a ton of games so lucky me, steam sales let me catch up on great games like.. Mass effect series or Bioshock, and alan wake ect.
this is a short list of all games i was on the pre-order must have bandwagon, but that darn budget made me make choices so these ended up being games i waited on. War for the overworld, Wasteland 2, Divinity original sin, Pillars of eternity, Life is strange after the storm, Civ VI, Gal Civ III.. All turned out to be excellent games for me though a couple still are on the will list but hey, more than enough vids to watch to know that will be the case.
But as always i thank all those that pre-order and buy at full price so those that don't, eventually end up getting great games.. Even if they don't start out that way. I think back at Baldur's gate before the expansion was released and what a buggy mess that game was and down right broken. But after the expansion for 20 bucks, and a fan patch that took a few years to make the game is one of the greatest RPG's at all time. I know i pre-ordered BGII because of it and that one again launched with tons of bugs and broken things.. But working with other fans the Baldurdash patch was made. *(no i didn't make it, i just bug hunted and sent game saves with things i found and was even the first to find a bunch of the bugs, yea me i guess?) Now BG and BGII are talked about as one of the finest group RPG's ever made. But try playing them with out patches, Good luck! the first witcher was another that was a total mess out the door, but thankfully people bought it anyway and they kept working on it and it turned into the enhanced edition and then into one of the best fantasy trilogies ever made.
I know what i like, and rarely have bought a game i thought was a flop. Perhaps learn what you really like than what is hyped and you can do better at picking ahead of time. and be happy others do buy earlier and put their faith in companies. I would hate to see what the gaming landscape looked like if everyone waited 8 years to buy a game for 5 bucks.
