I think that some of you guys are experiencing classic burnout and should perhaps take a break. Ive been doing that since the game was in beta and I always enjoy the game a hell of a lot when I return. This time being probably my longest stint yet. I love messing about in QP.

The locust has been giving me a lot of enjoyment recently and im certainly not a top level player despite what this meaningless T1 badge might say.

The specific nature of this playerbase (old men who play board games) might be a factor.

Conjecture: The probability that a post is obviously the correct answer to a question goes like q^{- (post #)}, for some 0<q<1.

I don't know how many threads have a reply in posts #2-5 that make you nod your head and say "yep, that's pretty much it," but the percentage must be very close to 1.

A week of playing DDO again was for fun than MWO has been for the past two years for me.
Kinda sad.

I generally have not experienced the "potato apocalypse" that some people go on about in the forums. Yeah, sometimes people make stupid decisions. We all do. Overall though, I think the teams I'm on in QP are pretty skilled individually.

What is lacking in QP is overall strategy and coordination. That's why when someone who knows what they're doing gets on Coms and makes calls, the team usually stomps the enemy.

The ingame tutorials do not provide new players with any knowledge above the absolute basics - they do not even go into how each game mode is played.

I'm sure we would perceive an increase in skill if better (and more) ingame tutorials would be provided.
There are a lot of great guides and information available on the forums, which could be easily put into the game in text form.

This forum.... I don't get sometimes.

You have threads like this complaining about the absence of meta players, meta skillz and meta playstyles.

Then you have an equal or greater number of threads complaining about the continued dominance of a narrow range of meta builds (laser vomit, PPFLD, heavy gauss, mg lights), meta mechs (death strike, linebacker) and meta play styles (cough strikes)... which is exactly what you will get more of, the more "high skill" players you have in a game.

Like some of you folks are just never happy, and never have been since the game came out. I scarcely think it would be impossible to make some of you happy, ever.

It's just a game. Play it and have fun.

And stop wasting time on this damn forum that the devs don't even bother reading that often.

i blame it on the fact that this game only has four maps. players are their own worst enemy in this case. the tendency to vote for easy mode maps means that you are going to wind up on one of the 4 maps that usually get voted. the other maps that never get voted are the very variety people ask for. the solution is to weight the vote on the lesser played maps so they get upvoted more.

This. I also blame that it also tends to reinforce people playing the same builds over and over again, for those same maps, reinforcing a cycle of limited selection. This creates boredom.

The game should have removed map and game mode selection, and added a limited deck for respawns. A drop deck encourages a wider selection of mechs to be used for that given map and game mod. So within the same game, you can start with an assault but forced to play a light mech in a later phase of the game. At the same time, having a limited set of respawns would also focus on a more objective style of play.

Why are the potatoes coming in 2018 and not 2012? Was it the lack of regional servers? Was the case of Celerons being inadequate to run Crytek in that time period? Why now and not previously? Good and bad players could have evolved together had they started the race at the same time and the gameplay would have been better for it.

The reason is that good players increasingly fled the game, leaving the potatoes. In fact, this resulted in positive reinforcement to bad players simply because there's now more of them relative to good ones, and this in turn means gameplay degenerates.

I don't think that's a fair assessment. Skilled players want to play with/against other skilled players, like any other competition or sport. That's not such an unreasonable request is it? But instead we got a match maker that doesn't match based on skill but experience. So of course you get bads upset that they're in over their heads, and good players upset they're stuck with incompetent teammates/opponents. Weapon balance and meta has very little to do with the real problems with this game.

I would have rather this game been a tactical shooter with logistics and resources, but we got a simple team death match. Ok, fine, but they should have at least given us a good match maker if they had to take the competitive e-sports rout. PGI really dropped the ball, and it's sad.

Rat, people will complain when they know something can be better.... Especially, if they care about the game and that game is what really interests them.... Many of us have played all of the MW games and still play those games..... I still have Mercenaries loaded and play once a year just for the fun of it...... Same with Eve. Same with FO4. Same with freelancer..... You get the point.

That's what you are reading and it is their frustrations in the game itself not being as good as it could be...

Yes, Adams01, it is more than sad and at some point, it will have to change or cease to exist.....

i wouldnt say for some of the veterans its a declining skill base

maybe its just because of people like me who like to take really dumb / autistic mechs into QP >>

Sure, I can get 700+ damage easy with some meta hellbringer. But whats the fun in that?

OP: Because we don't play anymore.

I haven't, not since my modular power supply decided to nicely uninstall all my hard drives in a cloud of smoke a few weeks ago. I haven't been able to will myself to reinstall MWO. So much data lost...

Been slowly dying for a a while now.
I've only been playing a year now, and I'm starting to put it down already, but I'm a fan of Mechwarrior so my inner nerd draws me to it...everyone else, kids of the generation...they dont' even know what battletech is.

It doesn't help that there is no press about the game seen anywhere. Its not been recently reviewed by gamespot, ign, ect: http://www.metacriti...hwarrior-online

Its also annoying how BAD play quality can swing based on what time of day of the week and what hour of the day you are playing, resulting in very inconsistent gaming experiences.

Also b4 someone says it, yes the steam chart API chart is accurate...someones going to say "Oh it doesn't include the stand alone client", dude its 2018...and if the trend on steam is trending down, you can expect the same trend for the non-existing stand alone client statistics.

MWO is the only game I've seen players write in lobby waiting a game, about the use of Viagra and laughing about it.

I think it's funny.

I've not really myself observed any "decline of skill".

It's pretty bad. If I die early usually I can find 1-3 other pilots on my team playing competently. The rest are playing with their toes or on ketamine. QP has increasingly turned into a meta-game of (1) Harvest enemy potatoes, (2) identify and kill the other team's good pilots before they harvest all your potatoes.
