Killing the mode even if it is just for a few weeks, A) takes that hope away, regardless of how illusory that hope is; and B ) sends a pretty clear signal that CW is the lowest of priorities for your company's future development...which brings us back to point A).
This is a bad idea from the pissed off founder perspective, the historically dedicated player base perspective, the casual steam player perspective (if they can't get give a decent NPE in a 12v12 environment how are they going to draw casuals into an environment where their skill alone is what determines victory/enjoyment?). Just a bad idea all around.

also: he who lives by the facebook shall be smacked with it - or something along that line.
stopping fw so we are "forced" into solaris; stupid(est) idea ever; we play FW for a reason.. and being a rambo in a 1v1 scenario is not it.
I was going to get the S7 pack and the flea. not doing both now till that stupid idea is out of the way.
people who are curious about solaris will look into it no matter what (I would); but taking away the other toys to force me to play with that one...
nah. you got a strange way to interact with your customers and keep them happy.
you should sell cars; and if somebody is interested in buying a new SUV, you run around the hall with a hammer and smash all of them; next you suggest "why not buy this new beetle instead?"
eh.... TL;DR-version: ..PGI..
*shrugs*

I honestly can't think of any business reason beyond PGI do not want to continue spending revenue and resources on a separate set of servers for a mode that (admittedly) is under populated. Is the mode "dead", no but there is an even smaller variety of players participating in it than group or solo QP.
IF this was a prelude to some form of grand overhaul I could swallow the bitter pill, however even that would not warrant shutting the mode down for 2-4 weeks: the mode could continue to operate as it has and those that play it would continue to do so but with a few of us that have interest dabbling in Solaris during down times. Then when the time came the shiny new FP update would be rolled out to replace the dull and old version, still no reason to shut down the current version,
Therefore, the only reason I can see for turning off the FP servers is to try and pull as many players into Solaris as possible BUT and PGI this is addressing you directly here: you seem to have overlooked the fact that many if not all of the current, longstanding FP players are still playing because of the TEAM aspect. Something that is completely anti-thesis to the notion of Solaris, with the exception of the 2vs2 but is still a poor replacement for Company vs Company engagements.
Unfortunately this is the latest in a (long?) line of actions that have, whether by intent or omission, negatively affected groups/teams of players. These are players that PGI should be catering to as we are the ones that play your product over the long term, that have and will continue to support you financially. So shutting down a team/group focused area of the game, in favour of a solo/duo centred mode, which doesn't even have a functioning "stable" system that I have seen or heard of to encourage players to socialise and "group-up" and compete together.
All-in-all a very short-sighted and poorly thought out progression of the IP, that could and should have been a stepping stone in the development of the player base. I HOPE that PGI will think this through and see the flaws in this logic, then fully plan out a better way forward or I fear that it will sound a death knell for many groups of players and in turn the game itself.

tbh i would go a step further and lengten the duration from 2 weeks => 1month
+ QP are forbidden too this way evrybody can tet the glorious 1 v 1 soliras!!! and pgi will have the largest data collection if the mode any good.

Yep, they just eliminated one of the funniest things I ever saw in video games without as much as an attempt to make it work (and I was hammered a few times as well but failed to be offended somehow). As for the shutdown, I do not think I would even notice it. No matchmaking (even as primitive as in QP), no balance for the tech bases (the Clan vs Clan matches in CW were absolutely great), no point in faction loyalty and constant caving in to the whining of big merc units... And for those looking for "challenging games" there is the comp play button. This is not to say we do not need Faction Play at all, but it requires major work to become a legit game mode.

its just a PGI play to force us to play a gamemode (some of us) dont want to play.

Seriously one of the most exquisitely thought out plans I have had the misfortune to witness in many year; wtg PGI/Russ

I was going to purchase the Solaris pack because i wanted to support PGI for releasing new content. Heck I even posted on my units forum I was doing it and encouraged others to do so as well, even when most the mechs were just so so. I have not been dropping coin on MWO due to the lack of new content and various other development decisions they have been making.
I was all set to open the wallet till I Ilistened to the last pod cast. The moment Russ said he was shutting down FP, everything came to a screeching halt. Faction Play was the only thing that the last few active unit members of COMA would log in to do and with it shutting down for even a few weeks the final nail in the coffin will be hamered in. So the wallet will not be opened and I will make every effort to discourage anyone else from giving PGI one cent. This will also include not buying Mech Warrior 5. I will not invest in any product PGI offers till they finally deliver a Faction Play mode that is BALANCED, GIVES LOYALIST A REASON TO BE LOYAL, IS NOT DOMINATED AND CONTROLLED BY MERCS, ECT., ECT., ECT.
I find it a real shame how many people I have played MWO with are no longer playing it now. This product deserves far better then what PGI has done to it and I fear PGI will continue to just run it in to the ground. I 'll keep playing it for now but more to see how bad things continue to get and how low PGI can go.
Normally I can handle listening into the podcasts even when Russ has bad a few to many but with every slurred word spoken I found myself getting angrier and angrier. Hats off to Daeron he was the only one that kept things together. Sorry to Chris I can only imagine how hard it is to do your job. Sean Lang as always contributed nothing what so ever and is probably hurting the game more then anything with his comments and views.

Dumb on a whole other level too.
Myself, like many many others, are here for Battletech and that is CW for us. Putting that on hold for however long, is pretty much the end of the majority of time we spend in MWO.
12man QP is NOT the enviroment I want to play in, even if only for 2 weeks, and I'm not alone in that sentiment.
There is no option for 12man Solaris, only 2. Putting the ability for 12 of us to play together on hold is a real kick squarely in the yarballs to the Group/Unit/Friends we have made.
Putting the Teamwork centered, teamwork focused gameplay on hold is a bad move.
Putting teamwork on hold thinking those teamwork focused players will play in an instant gratification non teamwork setting of quick and devolving matches is poor judgement and lack of understanding for those very players.
Rethink this idea.
Not to even mention we were told the Solaris Mechs will be playable in CW. How can that be if CW is closed for up to a month?
