Removeing Map/mode Selection

In an average play I see 2 modes and 3 maps that are played over and over. (At least it feels like it, I haven't made a list)
Anyway what my point is with the comp-play introducing a "an allready played map/mode can't be played again" I thought if a system like that could be implemented for the map selection in QP it could lead to a more diverse map+mode selection.
Kinda like "if you have allready voted on this mode/map today you can't select it again until you have selected/played all other modes one time."
That should make it so that you still can have some kind of selection going on but should result in more diversity in what you would play in terms of modes+maps combinations.
The other option would be to go back to the old randomizer we had before.

As about Escort, while I agree that mode needs some work to be done I had good experiances with it when the teams actualy works together. So potential is there, its just not good as it is now.

why I like your concept per se, it ends in the usual few maps, with the usual few modes just getting picked first.
later on, they'd probably pick up nothing till a reset of some kind (in hope someone else picks the usual stuff, which they will).
random maps&modes maybe could shake things up.

Also this change would be a great opportunity to add 'Mech choice after the map is selected, so we can have some way to bring the right 'Mech for the right map.

There's your core reason.
The least voted for map also happens to be the hottest map in terms of punishing cooling and max heat (before shutdown) debuffs.
The three hot maps most commonly voted for happen to be the coldest of the hot maps... with the two most popular, Tourmaline and Rubelite, being the coldest. Caustic is kinda warm, though it makes me wonder why people aggregate to the center of the map where it is hotter than Terra Therma in terms of the heat debuffs.

For comparison: Tourmaline -15% cooling rate and -10% max heat. Rubelite is identical.
(What's funny is 3 years ago, Tourmaline was -25% cooling and -25% max heat, as was Terra Therma and Caustic, and nobody cared.. But also funny was 3 years ago laser meta wasn't...meta.)

This is very interesting, I had no idea the temperature indicator did not matter. I wonder why PGI would put in numbers that not only do not matter, but in some cases might mislead people.

we need communist map selection
instead of players voting on maps, players should be forcibly assigned to maps according to ability
and anyone who complains should disappear along with their families

nothing wrong with the maps, people are just to lazy to keep an eye on heat.
just try groupdrops.. as soon as you vote terra somebody will say "that map is stoopit, duh" *paraphrasing here slightly*
yeah.. I stack my vote on terra all the time, no matter what mech I drive.
and have a wide smile ones it comes up, even in my laserboats.
voting would be fine, if people weren't .. oh well. so many things in MWO could be fine if people weren't.. ;D

'fluff'
PGI has stated as much, however, that the temperatures are just fluff (when someone pointed out that a map listed as colder than another had no difference... as both were considered heat neutral by the buff/debuff as they did not change the base heat stats.)
Kinda like old BT mechs with identical hex movement are given different speeds than what would be standard for the hexes, for the sake of variety.

As for removeing "bad" maps or modes. I don't realy see bad maps. Sure I would favor one over the other but with adapting to the map you can play on all of them.
Modes is a bit different. I think Escort needs a seriouse overhall but its an interesting idea. To me Assault is the mode that should be kicked out. Its Skirmish with a base that a lousy light can cap to ruin the match for everyone else.
All other modes are kinda okay. Though I would like to see conquest with a Dropdeck/Respawns. Its much more fun that way.
