They could also use the time to do server maintenance and other things they don't normally have time in a typical down time.
Thoughts?

Let's do it. Why should we give players a choice as to what they want to drop? Let's make sure Solaris launch is 100%!
Or make it a gate - win 10 Solaris matches to regain access to QP!

I have no desire to play Solaris regardless. Forcing me to only have Solaris as a play option will result in me not playing at all.

This was my original theory as well, since all FP matches are locked to NA servers, if they did the same for Solaris then if their projections were huge for Solaris it would make sense. But instead they said the reason was so FP drops wouldn't take forever to find a match (implying that everyone would be trying Solaris), so now I don't know wtf to think. Either they're lying or there's an assumption that we're mostly stupid...which, okay, they might have us there.

FP is tied to NA servers because PGI hasn't figured out how to roll the changes to the galaxy map from 3 Server regions into one unifying result
If we're talking Server capacity I don't think FP registers as at all

Why does it makes sense?
It's not like FP received all this non stop ever evolving development / dev resources and now all of a sudden FP isn't getting any love for 2 months or so?
Please

PGI thinks Solaris is going to be a hit and player numbers might dwindle even more in FP as a result
Or they might switch it off and claim afterwards that "numbers show players kept on playing and FP isn't needed any more"

Dang and I just came back to play FP after like 4 years and I thought it was making a comeback? WTF? I think Some one at PGI has finally lost there minds?
As far as servers I told them not to buy those terrible Blade servers at TigerDirect and try to run the servers out of there offices with a masked IP.

What maintenance exactly?
When it's on a hosted server/array (PGI don't actually own them...)... Short of the entire data centre crashing/being blown up there is no downtime needed for any maintenance as any parts that fail you just replace that gives you zero down time.

I suspect PGI is worried about numbers and having to report those numbers to their creditors to prove their business case....
So, in typical Canadian corporation fashion, they are hedging their bets to insure the sample size meets minimum numbers they may be compelled to report.
They can't take both FP and QP down at the same time: the threat of the player base abandoning MWO is not an imagined existencial risk and PGI must have Solaris up, running and being populated by the business case forcasts of the number of players.....
