I have only had time to look at the freebie mechs in the mechlab so has anyone played a few matches and want to share first impressions? What seems like a decent build?

Locked, but if you are unhappy with the freebie you can at least strip it for parts.

It CAN be sold. As in, I already sold it from my clanner account. (And also sold the Sun Spider from my main account.)

It's a normal Hero 'mech, not Loyalty.

First attempt at build is LFE265, 15 DHS, 2xLPL, 3xSRM4, 3xLMG, AMS. I think I like it (it's my first Roughneck so nothing to compare against.)

A single MRM40 would save you some weight while sacrificing only a little cooldown and spread. Use that weight on a bigger engine, a brawler is gonna need it...

I dont like how the Right Arm Ballistics don't go into the center of the arm (like on the Reaver).

Really irks me, since the Left Arm hardpoints are fine...

Well it's...just another Roughneck to be honest. I mean it still has less lasers than i would like and more missiles and ballistics than i can mount...so...yeah.

Replace the ballistics in the arm with two more lasers and it would have been very nice, but it's ok...it's another free mech, and a Hero. Can't complain.

I run just AC20, 3xMRM10. Didn't go under 400 damage in 20 games with it.

I think I like the PowerHouse better than the Reaver.

Haven't ran much of the Vanguard yet. Current build: 2xH-LL, 2xUAC5. Doesn't seem bad from the few matches I played.

Ran the Vanguard a good bit more and found that I really like 2xERML, 2xUAC10, 2xLMG.

Y though? Roughnecks are solid chassis, and IS ballistics + missiles always does well.

What a wasted opportunity, huh? I was very hopeful that would be the placement location, but sadly, that was not the case.

After a number of back-and-forths, I've settled for 2xLMG, 1xGauss, 2xMRM10, and 1xLarge Laser.

Is it any good? Not a single clue.

I'll be honest, I'm just as clueless as most when it comes to trying to put things on this Roughneck. I considered twinSnub twinAC5, but... That just sounds mediocre, what with the low mounts and damage.

I can't get past the "Staring dumbfounded at this weird, awkward thing" phase. I pretty much gave up on trying to do anything fun on both the new heroes and went back to going completionist on FF15.

I normally have a thing where I am compelled to skill up mechs I have, even ones I hate. Neither of these mechs even tickles that impulse. I take this as a sign of how awkward and boring they are.

Don't fret. I usually can't get past the "Staring at a slideshow because my hardware sucks" phase.

I'm enjoying it. It's solid and flexible, like the Roughneck is in general.

It's okay. Some of the others are better.

AC10, 2xMRM20, 1xMRM10 runs very cool and gets work done.

Like a Roughneck should.
