I just started playing again after quitting beta back in 2012 or so, and it sure gives me a feeling of isolation. With no general chat, no public VOIP, no list of Units to browse, it sure is lonely. Don't most games at least have a readily available way to interact with one another in random groups some way, outside of matches? Sure, there are the forums, but I want to interact with people.

I was wondering if Piranha meant for it to be this way, or was it just a blunder on their part?

PGI has been up-front since the start that MWO was meant for team oriented play. They just never made the mental connection that perhaps some in-game communication tools would assist that.

It took years to get VOIP in, and years to get even basic chat functions into FP, and there is still no way to have a general/all chat window (afaik).

Your closest bet is to use the FP 'faction' chat, which you can easily do now even on either side by switching contracts. You don't actually have to -play- FP to use the chat.

Teamspeak, not browser

I have no clue how that link got in though, I've never even seen 1001 Arabian Nights, sounds interesting though!

Yah, ingame comes are pretty... rough.

Best you can do is collect Teamspeak and Discord servers and find a place you like with people who you want to play with. There are a lot of groups that welcome new or returning players, with a lot of cool folks.

Just be careful when it comes to ingame advice and such. There's some places filled with nice people and horrible, horrible, horrible advice.

Faction chat is basically general chat. And is about as dumb as you'd expect any general chat in any game to be.

Here's something new: "You've been rewarded with paying us money for a key for your box" Oh boy! Can I?

game really needs built in recruitment tools. unit browser where units can put up a few lines about the unit (which can include links to teamspeak servers, what kind of players they are after, etc) and how to go about joining. the real meta game is finding the teamspeak server for the people you are dropping with.

with the faction restriction lifted joining a unit seems like something i can do now, dont have to worry about loosing progress when the unit decides to switch sides on you.

Lol, which tries to push some fake flash update to your computer. Which could be installed on his and replacing links to spread itself.

It is the result of a systematic campaign against "premades" and "tryhards" in an effort to make the game more friendly to super casuals and solo players.

I'll investigate this. I suggest to OP to remve that link. All I did was copy an address from TS, so that link is probably malicious.

Outreach HPG is probably the best place to find information on any sort of organized MWO play. Specifically, you may find the voice coms directory useful.

I suggest joining a unit personally. Just post in the unit rec section or in the FP chat and I'm sure you'll get some hits.
