Hello, i played MWO for some time in 2013... I had some issues with the game and i started playing starcraft 2 which is the game i love. I play a lot of singleplayer games to but always one competitive online game, before SC was cs 1.6.

Years later i got a job, still like playing singleplayer and mp parallel but time is the issue. SC2 is very very demanding game, on relatively higher level u don't play 4,5 days and u are way behind. I like strategic play becouse there are things u can think about even if u are not playing and i like mech's so here i am.

I know that u can make your build and that is great, lot of mechs and its not super fast, so that is great to. That mean if i have a bad day at job i still can play the game, cuz in sc2 if u don't have enough APM and concentracion you are good as dead.

I understand that this game is old and that community is much smaller. So i ask is it worth commiting my time and maybe money for MWO. I know that Mechwarrior 5 is coming and that some recources are going there.

I can't hear anywhere about this game except here. I know about it bcs i played older singleplayer games like MW2.

Be honest, if someone in the community want to tell me the position of the game, maybe expected future and so on.

Kinda similar here, I played MWO back in 2012-2013, then took a long break, and have been back for like 4 months. It is a lot of fun, if a bit frustrating at times. It may sound elitist to say, but it seems like most of the people in quick play are absolutely terrible, broken up by maybe 10-20% of people there who actually have a clue. The matchmaking is terrible, so a team might have 2-3 good players on it, vs a team with zero good players, and it just ends up in a one sided stomp.

I really enjoy Faction Play actually. If you get a group of at least 7-8 SOLID players together, bringing synchronized mech builds, it can be a lot of fun.

An entirely new game mode, Solaris, is set to come out next week. It will focus on 1v1 and 2v2 games, so if that's interesting to you now's a great time to get in.

Try, is why you fail....there is no try! Do or do not....

Wander back, please.... I was going to say more but I'll take EL's route and that's all I have to say.

Theres never a rational decision when Im confronted with a game.

Either I feel I enjoy it and its fun or I dont.

Other ppl wont be able to tell you if you can enjoy a game.

You either do or you dont.

It's definitely worth playing. Despite all its flaws it's a fun game. It's also free to play so you can get into it without spending any money. The initial learning curve and grind can be a bit hard to get over, but you can at least reduce the grind by doing some research before buying any mechs to avoid making mistakes and wasting cbills.

I used to play SC2 back when WoL first launched and while it was fun, staying competent was a ton of work. MWO is much more relaxed in that that regard, once you have a solid skill set you can pretty much just jump back in and shake the rust off quickly.

Play it for a month, get some advice on what to do when starting, and see how you like it. If you're having fun, great. If not, you've not really lost much.

If youre any good in shooters, then mwo will feel natural right away. Its a shooter in ultra slow motion.

Play the game. If it isn't fun for you go play another game. A great game will keep you playing for hours months or even years. I still play skyrim more than any other pc game I have due to all the mods and the ability to make my own if I ever make the time to learn.

Okay, as a starcraft player, you might actually get a better grasp of this than most. See, alotta folk look at it as a fps or sim shooter, but the real tactics come when you hit the minimap an look at it like a strategy game in which you only got the one unit. It really opens up the game when you bring some map awareness and strategy to the game. Things like rotating out the frontline to spread damage, focus firing, stuff like that that you need to micro to succeed in starcraft.

Still might not be your cup a tea, but I'd say give it a go, play a few game and then grab a book or something an try a Faction match. Just the one, to see if you like what you see. As a strategy gamer, that's where the game is for me. Quickplay is like a training zone where you can derp around without having to worry, but in Community Warfare, you've actually often got a team that tries to team it up.

Let us know your thoughts, and I've a few little guides I can offer, if'n ya want some advice.

If you are going to throw IRL money at MWO your best options are mechbays and premium time. That said, the Solaris 7 pack gives you a LOT for your investment. 30 days premium, 7 mechs with bonus c-bill earnings + bays, a little extra swag on top of that... for US$30.

As for how long the game will last, PGI has the license until sometime in 2020, and I can't think of any reason for PGI or Microsoft not renewing it. On top of that, MW5 and the upcoming PC Battletech (releases later this month) will drag a lot of interest into the game.

Worst case, MWO is F2P, re-install and play a few matches. If it isn't making you happy, hey, you're not out any money.

Actually as far as gameplay goes, if you can handle the fact that the matchmaker barely qualifies as such, you get a lot of good combat gaming in MWO. You can get past the matchmaker issues somewhat by getting 4-6 mechs up to speed and your base skills up to snuff, and then finding a team or group to drop with in group play or faction play rather than just solo in QP. QP is still good for a nice quick battle in-and-out though.

There is a lot of complaining on the forums, some of it mine. That is mostly from people who've player 10,000+ matches over the past 3-5 years and are bored with team deathmatch, and who wish the game was 'something more than what it is'.

But if you just want to do combat in battlemechs, it's still a pretty good game!

Hell yea there is some fun to be had here for sure. Plenty of frustrations but a lot of fun, I would say at least 1/3 of my time playing this game has been spent in the mech lab tinkering and tweaking, probably a lot more than a 3rd in all honesty.

SC2 is great, havent actually played in a long time now but I still watch tournaments. You will seriously wish that there was a commander to lead battles in this game, SC style. Perhaps you would enjoy that if you can get people to cooperate.

maybe you have fun
maybe you stay.

you really won't lose much testing it.

Long ago, I would have encouraged you to try it.

Some time ago I would have told you not to spend a dime on it.

Recently, I just don't care.

It's Free to play, so other than wasting some time if you don't like it, you aren't out much. At this point I'd just suggest you be very "judicious" in what you spend money on ,

To me this game gets old fast.. its unbalanced, broken and bias as all hell, but can be fun.. in short bursts.

Currently back in ESO enjoying it for free.

I would recommend this game to anyone into Battletech and previous MechWarrior games.

It's got some strengths:

1) Completely free to play.. if you play events, you can basically earn anything that is only MC available - no need to invest your own real money..

2) Visually, the game is a bit dated, but it still looks great compared to previous MW titles..

3) Even after all the bad stuff, the game is, shockingly still fun to play. I do suggest however you pair up with a buddy or significant other, makes it alot more fun.

4) Amazing range of customization options - mech collecting, skill-up, and customization is half the game experience.

There's also some bad stuff:

1) Performance issues - no matter how expensive your computer is, this game will always find something that doesn't work properly, and random disconnects are normal.

2) The learning curve is amazingly steep. Much of the minutia of how the game works is simply not described anywhere except in obscure and hard to find patch notes. If you have questions, use the forums - often.

3) Even though it's not as toxic as some of the other online games, it's still pretty toxic. If you are a new player, like to do your own thing, don't adhere to meta as a religion, or god forbid, play a LRM boat, you will get picked on and called names. Until you reach T1 God level, your actions, words, and accomplishments will be laughed at, and you will not be taken seriously. Also, if your statistics are not uber good, you are considered little more than cannon fodder.

4) Some mechs are great, some are trash, and some mediocre.. And there's no way to know which is which, because you don't know it until you play it. Many simply go to metamechs or similar sites for info, but the only way to really know is to buy a mech and play it.

5) The game gets repetitive, very quickly. That's normal. Some game modes make no sense. That's normal. That's why I suggest getting a buddy to play with.

6) The BT setting is ancient. Many many things in it, and by proxy, this game, make no sense. Accept this.

7) The game is simply not balanced. Accept this.
