Hello, i played MWO for some time in 2013... I had some issues with the game and i started playing starcraft 2 which is the game i love. I play a lot of singleplayer games to but always one competitive online game, before SC was cs 1.6.
Years later i got a job, still like playing singleplayer and mp parallel but time is the issue. SC2 is very very demanding game, on relatively higher level u don't play 4,5 days and u are way behind. I like strategic play becouse there are things u can think about even if u are not playing and i like mech's so here i am.
I know that u can make your build and that is great, lot of mechs and its not super fast, so that is great to. That mean if i have a bad day at job i still can play the game, cuz in sc2 if u don't have enough APM and concentracion you are good as dead.
I understand that this game is old and that community is much smaller. So i ask is it worth commiting my time and maybe money for MWO. I know that Mechwarrior 5 is coming and that some recources are going there.
I can't hear anywhere about this game except here. I know about it bcs i played older singleplayer games like MW2.
Be honest, if someone in the community want to tell me the position of the game, maybe expected future and so on.
I would recommend this game to anyone into Battletech and previous MechWarrior games.
It's got some strengths:
1) Completely free to play.. if you play events, you can basically earn anything that is only MC available - no need to invest your own real money..
2) Visually, the game is a bit dated, but it still looks great compared to previous MW titles..
3) Even after all the bad stuff, the game is, shockingly still fun to play. I do suggest however you pair up with a buddy or significant other, makes it alot more fun.
4) Amazing range of customization options - mech collecting, skill-up, and customization is half the game experience.
There's also some bad stuff:
1) Performance issues - no matter how expensive your computer is, this game will always find something that doesn't work properly, and random disconnects are normal.
2) The learning curve is amazingly steep. Much of the minutia of how the game works is simply not described anywhere except in obscure and hard to find patch notes. If you have questions, use the forums - often.
3) Even though it's not as toxic as some of the other online games, it's still pretty toxic. If you are a new player, like to do your own thing, don't adhere to meta as a religion, or god forbid, play a LRM boat, you will get picked on and called names. Until you reach T1 God level, your actions, words, and accomplishments will be laughed at, and you will not be taken seriously. Also, if your statistics are not uber good, you are considered little more than cannon fodder.
4) Some mechs are great, some are trash, and some mediocre.. And there's no way to know which is which, because you don't know it until you play it. Many simply go to metamechs or similar sites for info, but the only way to really know is to buy a mech and play it.
5) The game gets repetitive, very quickly. That's normal. Some game modes make no sense. That's normal. That's why I suggest getting a buddy to play with.
6) The BT setting is ancient. Many many things in it, and by proxy, this game, make no sense. Accept this.
7) The game is simply not balanced. Accept this.
